I think this is right around the time I was working on blending pencils with inked fur textures. As you can see by this image from 1992, I still had some work to do.

This character was named Monique (and yes, her name was reused for the fruit bat in Caterwaul Red), and was one of many alien characters I had written a story for in 1989. Most of the alien critters had names from Greek history (no idea why I did that). Yes, there were humans in the story. No, they didn't fuck the aliens. Jeez, is that all you think about?

I wish I still had the early sketches of these characters. One series showed their skeleton, then the musculature, then the body with skin (but no fur), and finally, the full finished form. The heads look pretty big with the way the fur tufts are kicking out like that, but they were the same size as human heads.
