way too late because it took me too long with all the marker stuff... doing shadings is hard, really, you need so many markers! :0
anyway, used various images off the net to get the water and everything right. I hope it's recognizable. XD second from top was done without ref.
the basic idea was to give her a neoprene suit in happy colours ("I look like the flag of france, but it fits nicely."), and maybe gloves and socks. gloves got omitted, the socks bear an anti-slip structure under the paws. are such things a thing? maybe they are. (she doesn't get out of that suit all season, because it has an out-of-sight opening at the bottom, secured by knobs and velcro. is such a thing? maybe it should be.) hey, if you have fun, why stop. :)
there might be more to come in the future. maybe a proper ref sheet.
until then, surf on! :D

Wow I absolutely love what you've done here! Yes shading is very difficult and time consuming, but when done properly like you have here the results are Incredible!
Such Beautiful color work!
She looks amazing and I absolutely Adore those Beautiful Fang's! â¤ī¸
Draggy may be in love.....
Outstanding work my friend, keep it up you're becoming more incredible everytime you post something! *Hug's*

aw, thank you. :) the problem with markers is that with colour pencols you can put down a light layer of pigments, markers just put it down. :P but the effects you can do woith them are interesting. ^^
you have to ride the surfboard like a god to make her consider you, I'm afraid. ;)
thank you!

This is true about marker's....and why I don't use them myself. They make a "Color Blender" Marker which can help and give you a little wiggle room, but not much....
*Sadly looks to ground kicking a little sand* well.....draggy doesn't stand a chance then... Draggy can't even swim much less ride the Godly board of Surf!đŽâšī¸

yeah, essentially filled with nothing but dissolver. and copics smell of alk enough already. :) but I have a feeling that no matter how many markers you have there will always be one amiss.
in all honesty, once I start digital, and it turns out to me up my alley, I might try to get rid of these markers. the price tags alone... oh my.
well, you can always try and sell beer and other beverages at the beach. :)

I completely understand and agree, Marker's are neither Cheap nor do they have a pleasant smell. However they can give you a lovely Buzz if you use them long enough....đ
I tried them once as they were all the rage at the time, but found them terribly difficult to work with, smelly and a one time error tool.
Personally I prefer colored pencils as I can work and manipulate them much more easily and their smell is not nearly as pungent.
A beer vender huh? Naw, draggy could sell sunscreen and give lessons on proper sunscreen application.đđđ

I couldn't figure out what the red spot around the ball her toe was in the third panel, but you showed the neoprene grippers quite clearly in the second panel!
My Dad knew more about neoprene than 99% of chemists in the 1960s and '70s. His job was to develop rubber compounds for new applications.

haha, I'm glad they come across as intended. :) they are inspired by a pair of working gloves I came across at a company making buildings' windows and window panes, and we had to put them from one carrier to the next one as comissioned. and if they were wet it was almost impossible to handle... until someone brought those gloves with a wave-patterned rubber on the palms that looked like some silicone. but it gave you a death grip on wet glass like nothign else.
discover the possibilities! they use that stuff for many things these days, like toolbox inlays, and somesuch.

I have seen some of them. I wonder how they hold up against modern days' fuels. not long ago I encountered a late 90's Audi A6 where every rubber sealing around the tank and in-tank fuel pump had dissolved into some sort of sticky goo... damn that "bio" alcohole in the fuel, classic rides tend to have problems with the stuff. and it's nothing like "bio", either.
anyway, soft rubber soles were your dad's doing? awesome. :)

Dad retired when racing enthusiasts started using alcohol and complaining that the floats were dissolving (as you observed, the seals and other rubber products -- including hoses, did too). He was hired with a BS in Chemical Engineering 70 years ago; he obtained a Master's degree later on. His replacement was required to have a PhD. (Dad called it degree inflation). He stayed on for a few years, long enough to see the new guy solve the problem. Until then, alcohol would dissolve what gasoline didn't and vice versa.
Latex insoles already existed but they had very short lifespans. The latex would literally rot in the users' shoes; I was one of the early adopters (I had horrible problems with my feet and very acid body chemistry). Three weeks after Dr. Scholl's made the original request, Dad handed me a sheet of material about 45cm by 23cm (36"x18"). It was a yellowish color on one side and the other was light brown, emulating leather, I guess. I cut a pair of insoles using some latex ones as a guide; a couple other member of the family did, too. Instead of 4-6 weeks, they lasted years until hours of security patrol duty finally wore them out -- and I cut another pair.

back in early 90's the until-then used two-layer fuel hoses here, with the fabric lining, would harden up and dissolve from the new fuel qualities. I used to work at an Opel autoshop back when, and every day we had one or another car with old hoses starting to seep; we soon picked up on parking the car on the lifter, then getting out ASAP and open the engine hood and take a sniff. smelled gasoline? new fuel hoses. if tnot they were most likely already replaced... I had some that were mere fountains of fuel. :P
latex dissolves quickly I'm told... good thing your father was so inventive. :) I'm using orthopaedic inlay soles, too, which are formed of a foamy rubber (most likely what yiur dad developed) with a sheet of leather on top. they do last a few years, indeed. ^^

I get the oddest feeling that this one knows the lovely kangaroo lady from "Come In, The Water Is Great!" in passing. They aren't close friends, possibly don't even know one another's names, but they've seen one another in passing often enough to recognize one other's face and know that she's a fellow fan of time in the water. A strong sense of quiet smile to recognize a familiar face when they hit the beach...even if, as yet, they've perhaps never said hello and introduced themselves.
I love the world of your art, Anbessa. I utterly *love* the little, awesome stories it tells. I know I've said this often, but it bears saying again: thank you so much for telling these stories. Your work reminds me of everything that made furry art so awesome for me, thirty-plus years ago when I first discovered it was a thing.

you know, I did have her in mind, somehow. or, if not her then her brother. I found a couple of nice images of surfers sharing a wave. and who knows they might sit together at the afterparty when they all wait for the sky to turn purple again, knowing not much more than each other's nicknames.
I have been growing up with comics from germany, france, belgium, sometimes italy. I loved how each panel told a tidbit of the story... I want to try to do the same. even in a pinup, the people have a life after the "photoshoot". and before, and besides. and I want to make sure there is life in the afterglow. :)

Beach firedance. There are libations, somebody's grilling up the fisher(wo)men's catch and accepting donations if you want a plate, and the drum circle's full roar. That earth mother bear lady and her lynx wife are back again, and nobody drums like they do. (Nobody goes through the beer like they do, either, though. May I humbly suggest that somebody with a car make a run for more...you're going to run out, but nobody much minds.)
Roo, roo and teefcat may or may not never talk, but they cast shadows on the same fire circle, dance together, and celebrate one sea, one sky, one people. :)

lovely image. ^^ this sounds like a full scene, or a one-pager comic.
"You're still wearing your suit. Do you ever drop it?"
"Dunno, man. It's a hassle to get in and out again. Maybe when winter comes, we'll see."
"Always ready for the next wave, huh?"
"Rrrright. Toss me a bottle?"

And somewhere, there's a slightly fancier vixen with hints of schwarzwaldbecher left on her tongue, perusing a travel guide's "must-see" attractions in town with disinterest, eye caught by the surfers on the strand she can see from her hotel balcony, musing to her date, "Do you think they have fun, out there on the waves all day? It just seems so...//rrrrobusti//, you know?" (She rolls her R's adorably when conjuring the allure of the language, even if she sounds even more like a tourist for it.) "I wonder what it's like..."
Might I gently suggest to her date for the vacation -- I begin to wonder if that vixen basically "vacations" nonstop for a living, perhaps she's a travel vlogger? -- consider taking her out for a ride on a PWC, while the light's still brilliant that day. I think she'd like that a lot, even if she screams the entire trek, waffling between "Go faster!" and "Oh no slow down slow down!")
The imagery your art inspires. <3 Mine are only one set of stories, but bless you for asking me to share them, now and then.

if this continues we'll connect all of my pinups in to one big story. :)
his reply might be, "I don't know. We could ask them, I guess, maybe we'll get an answer that's not entirely sublective or even esoteric. My uncle said they are a tight-knit community with their own rules and stuff. Then again Uncle Alan tends to exaggerate. If you wanna try I'll see what offers there are, because now I'm curious, too."
I had to look up PWC first. it refers to jetski, yes? that sounds like something someone would try first before stepping on a board. (not me, personally, I'm not good enough a swimmer to try and dare, safety vest or not.XD) a travel vlogger? that sounds like a good idea, after all someone has to try out the newly developed place for the people. and find out the other side of the coin... "300m to the beach!" yeah right, vertically 300m. The next staircase is a mile away, tho. Tell me another one..."
and who knows, she might find a liking for smoothskin neoprene suits... soft and shiny.
which reminds me of a special-agent movie from late 70's I think, outside of the JB franchise. agent travels to the beach, with his partner, a curvy blonde woman with brains and skills. while he tries to make contact or something she goes to scuba diving along the beach, clad in a colourful rubber halfsuit with long sleeves. curiously enough she let the front zipper open, probably as a fan service. later he comes to pick her up, "we gotta go fast, my contact has had to take off. Quick, grab our stuff!" - "Are you mad? it took me half a hour to get into this suit!"
speaking of inspiration, would you be interested in trying to write a shared story with me involving that dark-furred saber lady which looks like what one meets while doing the JB routine? I think we had some ideas there... of course not in the comments here, that could be inconvenient. maybe via email?
