I do like. Hey... I've always had difficulty with my scanner. I can never seem to get the images to come out as clean as they appear on the page - always with smudges or whatnot. The problem is, I do both lines and shading and need the gradient, but it's always accentuated. It's probably due in part to a cheap scanner, but I'm also a novice at Photoshop, so I usually just play around with the contrast and brightness until I get it as good as I can manage, but it still never comes out as clean as yours. Any suggestions, or am I just hopeless?
to be true. My scanner is a REALLY old one - very crapy.
;) and I hate the phrase "omg my art is so bad because my scanner made it bad looking"
I scan it with 300 pdi then I use Gradationskurven may be Gradientcurves in english? there you have a black and a white pipette - use the white on on what shall be white and the black one on what shall be black.
And then I use the eraser to but away all the dust ect.
And if the lines then appear to light just duplicate and multiply the layer

The problem with my scanner is that it's a page-feed rather than a flat-bed, so I wind up with things like streaks and lines where graphite got on the lens or was smudged on the rollers. I actually wind up using my camera for Daelyhel's work because it's too wide to feed - not the best solution, but it works.
But no... my art is bad because I can't draw and have no talent. I can't blame the scanner for that.
I haven't used the Gradient Curve feature... need to look into that. Again, I'm a novice at Photoshop, so I'm not familiar with much. I'll try your suggestions though - wonderful ideas. Thanks! ^^
