I wouldn't describe it as a "disc" - the top surface is relatively flat but there's a lot of barren rock under the habitable surface. What I said was the last panel of THIS page makes the remaining world look like a ring, and it is several apocalyptic events between then and 'now' that left it as a single segment.

a ring is a bit of a misleading way to describe the planet because a ring is basically a short and wide cylinder with the center hollow.
the planet on this current page is like an apple with a bite taken out of it
and the planet in the "present day" is like a disc like Something_Inconspicuous says, in that it is shaped like a frisbee just with some extra material under it

Maybe I'm misreading the image, but the last panel to me looks like a hole was blown THROUGH the planet, not just a big chunk taken out. It's difficult to tell with what seems to be a hint of atmospheric glow or maybe the vitrin sphere's influence, but I'm pretty sure that little bit peeking out over the front edge of the remaining planet is a view through to outer space on the other side.

Ooohh... Didn't notice that. Maybe Fen will show us a zoom-out on the next page and confirm whether the poor planet has been turned into a bead or not...

I'm starting to think that the only way they'll ever defeat this is by actually going INSIDE the Vitrin core. Thinking back to Page 6-76, that one panel where they say, "Small, personal shielding against the effects of the Vitrin core were also developed." makes me think that that might be the key.
