While it is dangerous for hyenas, I feel like there has to be some sort of medical intervention that could help, like C-sections or something.
Kathy's from a big city, she should (even if vaguely) know if there are large advances in medicine and stuff available, and Fred has enough money to hire on someone with those skill and knowledge levels to lower the mortality rate.
Then again, it isn't like our world to the T, so they may have different priorities for scientific discoveries and advancements.
..now I'm curious as to what advancements they may have that we don't yet (other than time machines, ha).
