Magic User: Students of the mystic arts make up the fourth most common type of post human, while anyone can theoretically learn magic not everyone does or can. Magic users channel energy from near extra dimensional realms or the physical universe itself to alter reality in a variety of ways. Magic users are one of the most well established super humans on the planet, the first to establish themselves within cities in order to teach their arts. Over time the demand for their skills grew and they managed to secure for themselves positions of prestige and authority within the various feudal states that rose in the earlier parts of human history. Greek city states had oracles advising public policy, Roman legates had war mages accompanying their legions, the Mongols rode with healers and shaman that saw to the health of their armies, Chinese emperors had mages as their personal guards, and samurai called upon their ancestors for strength in battle in tangible ways. Even during the witch hunts of the late middle ages church sanctioned mages called theurgists managed to evade suspicion and operate openly under the auspices of the catholic church, this was of course in exchange for using their arts to solidify the position of the church. Though well established their numbers were always small across almost all cultures, most preferring to keep their secrets to an elite and privileged few. World war 1 saw mechanized warfare and automatic firearms put the might of mages to the test as massed firepower and artillery overwhelmed the stoutest mystic defenses. The aftermath of World war 2 however changed everything for the state of magic users, after seeing legions of enhanced super soldiers steam roll all opposition even the most tradition bound mage colleges have started a recruitment effort for new blood. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the new commonwealth where mages in particular technomancers form the backbone response to super human proliferation.
