Li-Fen is a Shadowrun character I made that's dear to my heart. She's a fox shifter that goes from fox to human, and through human understanding comes to understand much about the world and herself -- but still animal enough to never stop questioning how humans do things.

She's a powerful mage and able to interact with the spirits, and slip into the spirit world through astral projection, as well as summoning spirits and casting spells. Shadowrun mages honestly get pretty powerful if you're smart about it -- such as invisibility, mass confusion, etc. Ultimately she is very Taoist, and learns by, in effect, "listening to the river".

Her whole plot is to try to protect the foster father who took her in; her biological parents are literal foxes, and being a shifter is not passed down in generations -- in fact it's not reproducible at all, and there's no scientific method of replicating it.
