A female next to a head shot of the male to show the differences in the mane. The ladies are also a bit smaller and more lithe as they are built for speed, a bit like lions. Unlike lions though, both take part in hunts. With females weakening prey with quick bites and scratches while herding them towards the males who catch the exhausted prey.
There's a fluffier sub species adapted to snowy mountainous regions.
And a sleepy chick!
I also like to imagine they're closer to wolf packs than lions socially. With a breading pair and its children with maybe some aunts and uncles. The children leave to hopefully start their own packs when mature and experienced enough in hunting.
