You can alter a figure's shape with morphs or deformers. DAZ Studio's D-Form plugin is sold separately.
DAZ Studio isn't really well-suited for animation yet. You might want to consider e-frontier's Poser, which has more advanced keyframing tools.
Poser 7 is ~$180, but you might be able to find copies of Poser 5 for $60 or so. Try Amazon.com.
