Surf Jawagora | 'Rabbit/Hare' Alien | Sci-fi/Fantasy

After Spazzfur drew me the 12 jawagoras I picked my favourite and they made this fully-painted version. Guys, gals, and non-binary pals, this is a surf jawagora.
A beach-dwelling animal, the surf jawagora is the largest of the jawagora species at 2ft long.
While most jawagora are nimble on their feet, the surf jawagora is better adapted to stand its ground on shifting sand and pebbles while being battered by surf. That isn't to say that it can't run if needed, and if you happen upon a herd of these animals grazing on a beach, they'll likely flee for rock-pools and any other shelter they can find, where they'll hide out until you've gone. Expect to be the focus of many pairs of orange eyes as they keep themselves mostly submerged and breathe through their gills.
They're meant to be silvery so perhaps we're only seeing them shining dark here, but their shine helps them to escape predators: they deliberately run through rock-pools to kick up water, which helps disguise them as they seek cover. I might ret-con their colour for the sake of camouflage, but I do have a beach in the works with black sand, so these guys may well fit in there.
This is sci-fi/science fiction, not fantasy, but Furaffinity lacks a drop-down option for that.

What is Kaleida?
Kaleida is a worldbuilding project without a storyline or individual characters. Most of my clients come to me with stories and characters and treat worldbuilding as an after-thought, so I'm doing the opposite and focusing solely on my worldbuilding. This species is a result of my research on how to create an alien ecosystem, which I wrote as a blog series. Read it here.
