If you would be so kind as to look right here at this light? *puts on his own sunglasses*
*BLINDING FLASH*
Sir, you have mistaken a cloud of swamp gas passing through our upper atmosphere after having been in contact with extreme solar radiation for an alien ship entering our atmosphere. I would recommend you refrain from reading so many tabloids.

Where is this picture taken? I remember when I used to live in San Diego, clouds would form like that, but sit there for weeks because of the mountains, or the high pressure system from the desert would keep it at bay until it was strong enough to break through (where it would rain for like a week).
Crap... Giygue is gonna send you on a crazy ass adventure...

I think the virus criticism is a bit undeserved. Given that the captured ship had been on Earth for years (it was supposedly the UFO that crashed for which Area 51 was created for), it was perhaps more than enough time for humans to learn enough things about it. It probably only needed a guy with a bit more inventive and smarts to find a bug in the system. If the writers had said Goldblum's character had cracked the alien programming and found a way to shut it down, perhaps it would had not sounded so ridiculous to many people. But then your general population is more familiar with computer viruses.
Nah, he was really smart for using a Mac. Because they paid him huge sums of money for product placement.
But yeah, I always thought that they were able to make a virus capable of affecting their technology because they had access to the fighter.
I might have been like, 8 when it came out, but I still consider it a damn epic movie.
