I changed my away message to this, and I got a lot of folks asking me "Are you serious?" and "Is that actually true?"
Yup. I was out for my nightly, 1 to 2 AM walk and found this lil' guy on the sidewalk. He's about 1.25 inches long, really tiny. Right now he's in a fairly small container filled with dirt (and some earth worms) but tomorrow he'll be transferred to something MUCH larger and open. With lots of crickets and mealworms, and a lil' shallow swimmin' dish and all the fixings.
He's really scared at the moment, but I think he'll settle down when he realizes he's going to be the most spoiled, fat toad ever.

I know. I'm going to provide a place for him to hop in. That's why it will be shallow. ie It's not necessarily for him to SWIM in. And my roommate and I already know about these things with the care taking. He has fish, african dwarf toads and a ball python that takes a spritzing on a regular basis too. We've got setup here and there for proper watering and treatment. Tap water has trace amounts of chlorine and stuff that they dont' need.
"...it's always optimistic like: hey here comes that frog. fantastic! maybe he will settle near me and I can pet him and put him in a mayonnaise jar with a stick and a leaf to recreate what he's used to..."

Cute.
We had colorado river spadefoot toads in Tucson.
Huge, forest green and surprisingly intelligent.
Also the most poisonous amphibian in north america with the possible exception of Bufo Marinus, (giant toad, or cane toad.)... so we handled them with care.
Shep got one to eat a french fry... and he liked it.
