A fast like 15 minutes fast watercolor of Mehitabel from Shinbone Alley. In all honesty, as someone that has been abandoned by their parent I found some scenes a bit triggering, but hey, we need contextualizing, its VERY important, expecially in these days of black-or-white communication, and the characters were created like, in the twenties? There was no respect for kids at the times. Or for cats. Or for women.
She is a very lovely character, forgetting her motherhood exploits, I loved her "sleep when I'm dead" attitude. Get spayed and have fun until your last day Mehitabel!
Note, Carol channing singing and dubbing was lovely, but I prefer Eartha Kitt vesion of "toujours gai" to be honest.

Heh, bit late to the party, but what the heck. When the movie came out in the early 1970s there were some marketing errors - film promoted as a kid's movie because all cartoon animals are for kids, right? Mom took 6 year old me to see it, we sat thru the whole thing. a lot of other mothers and kids left right at the start.
Ahah it's the way we discovered the best things as kids. This one didn't arrive in Italy, but i remember they took my entire class to watch "watership down" at the primaries, because yes bunnies, and a few kids were quite shocked. I already was crazy so i enjoyed immensely, i wanted to be a rabbit, and asked and obtained the movie picture book i still treasure today...
