It's clear this art didn't appeal to folks much. Despite it being a subject that seems very popular . (buff and a wolf with normal fur coloring)
I'm having a really hard time gauging what people like when it comes to subject and style.
What didn't you like about this wolf? What did you like, if anything about him? Should I make them more toony?
Should I make the eyes bigger and more human? Should I make the line work thinner?
This isn't about it not selling, the lack of +favs helps me determine how well liked something is. While I love it when things sell, if it still only gets a small number of favs I know the general watcher base didn't like it.
Thanks for your help!

To be honest, I love the style for this drawing! It reminds me a lot of the source books for the old Werewolf: The Apocalypse and Vampire: The Masquerade RPGs! If this is your style and you like it, that is what matters most, not altering how you do things to fit what might be popular right now (which seems to be art that is more manga-style). You have a style that stands out on its own instead of looking like a clone and that is a rare thing to achieve. Don't be discouraged if you're not getting millions of 'favorites'.
Maybe it's not a matter of appeal, but more of market, this guy strikes me as a sort of D&D Barbarian or World of Warcraft Horde guy, the longer scruffier fur, lack of basic clothing, practical belt with storage pouches.
As Manyskins said, purrhaps your followers are more into the manga style and this is an untapped or unexplored corner of the market for you, by that I mean the D&D, WOW, or the older RPG style gamers as opposed to JRPG just haven't become aware of your skills yet. Where werewolves and other mystical creatures looked like they could kill you effortlessly and most likely would instead of wearing a maid cafe abbreviated dress and being all doki doki or whatever that is.

I think he's great! And if I'd had a use for him, I'd have at least put in a low bid :)
... but I'm rarely interested in adopts as I've had the same character for about 24 years and I think the only adopt I ever bought was a cheetah-wolf hybrid because my dude IS a cheetah, wolf or hybrid of the two and I liked the design (so less of an adopt and more of a "and here's my dude in hybrid form") :)

I understand, but please also understand as artists we get really discouraged when the art we make gets no interaction. It's like yelling into the void. And while some artists do this as a hobby, for some, this is the only way we have to pay our bills. Putting notations on the art is the only way for folks to pay attention, few people read descriptions now days.
It’s great art and good character design to me. I still haven’t gotten to do anything with the adopt I did get from you, I don’t need any more but some of your ladies really tempt me sometimes. I think, and maybe I’m just stuck in my little corner of FA, but it might be because it is male. I think I noticed a difference of interest of your male in general. Taking this same design and making it female, including the beef, would be an interesting experiment.
I can understand that. I loved many of the cats you did. Unfortunately I have so many character ideas I won't use as it is that adopts are really feasible for me. If I wasn't on money lockdown due to the 3D printer I ordered I'd have tried to see if you wanted to do the design for a character I've had in my head for awhile.
It's okay I don't expect folks who've bought to keep buying. That's part of the challenge. When it seems only a small handful of folks like and buy, it's a very limited market. And yet I see other folks consistantly sell 300 and 600 adopts and I don't know what I'm doing wrong outside of not having over the top nsfw stuff.
Possibly the reduced interest was because the design could read as villainous, and in a more monstrous way than sexy way? Because I think the following elements might contribute to that take:
- very prounced teeth and claws
- wild/ragged fur
- hunched posture
- scars/notched ears
- small eyes with small pupils and no sclera
- serpentine familiar
Just some thoughts.

I +fav'd him and I think probably most of the people who commented here did so probably not the most useful feedback :D
But here's some suggestions for you that might help, I dunno! :)
- I think he would have worked better with a loin cloth or some ragged clothing. The "Ken doll" thing looks pretty strange to me -- I am more likely to +fav something that either is drawn 'anatomically' or something that has the bits covered. Or maybe if he was just really super fluffy there. As it is, he looks like he had bits but they were erased, just looks odd :D
- Like KennelBoy said, the hunched posture isn't terribly appealing to me personally. That's a werewolf-y thing I think, and maybe the "were" crowd digs that look? I'm not sure. I'd rather see him standin' tall.
- I really like his dragon pet :) Keep that kind of thing. His necklace is cool too. I generally like his accessories.
- Overall I like his style. However, he's very aggressive looking and I think that might be a harder sell for some people? I like it, but I could see how he just looks kinda like a snarly monster and that might not be everyone's cup of tea over a more approachable character.

I love the dragon on his shoulder. ^^
He's a nice character and the accessories are great.
I faved him and was interested in him for a moment, but I already have too many characters. xD
Also around 10 % favs to total views are pretty normal on FA.
In addition, I'm apparently not alone that the large round shape in the crotch area is a bit off-putting.

I love your shading and color work! Unfortunately, for me your recent characters are simply *too busy*. Gizmos, trinkets and knickknacks, wings, horns and spikes -- there's just too much going on.
I prefer my adopts rather simple, in relaxed calm poses that I can add personality on top of later on. For me, it's just a base to create a character on rather than a complete package.
[I also prefer lankier, slimmer builds, but that's neither here nor now.]
