It's great for flight. I wont bore you too much with the science of it, but when the air over the larger set of wings is split into slow high-pressure flow underneath, and fast low-pressure over the top, then that fast air flow is split again into even lower pressure by a secondary set of wings, the lift generated is not additional, but almost exponential, as well as the benefits of extra control. I don't know why it's not used on 'planes.
