Calypso is a barren, desolate and harsh place. It's part of a backstory/world-building exercise I've been working on every now and again, for just over a year now. I'm happy with this rendition, the only one that is so complete, so far. I've done some sketches about Calypso before but they were always much more vague.
And this is from a set of "skyscape" practise paintings I've been doing some work on, on and off during this month. I'll post the full set of them when or if I eventually finish the set of panels, the rest are nothing too interesting so far and honestly this one came about by mood/accident. I think I got this panel finished a couple of days ago.
This is a similar exercise to what I did on Landscape Doodles (S1).
So these panels are just meant to be casual but objective-oriented pieces and for that reason I've just been doing them on a single layer and with specific sets of brushes. It means I try to paint more like with how I've been used to doing on canvas, something I haven't been able to do for far too much time now. Well, except I do use the "undo" function...
I actually wanted to post some macro stuff today but just haven't managed to finish anything yet. Maybe someone can enjoy this view for the time being, at least.

I like the positioning of everything here, the parts of the wrecked spaceship and the different opacities of the clouds, all the moons in the sky...The planet on the right looks very nicely done as well, I feel that you added the right amount of detail to it, there are a lot of curved lines and the colors look really nice, I'd like to see more of that set in the future.
Also, if you're interested in sci-fi soundtracks based on space, I think you would enjoy the soundtrack from Crying Suns, It's very, very atmospheric https://youtu.be/mjMdGgFv3Rg
Oh! And the Planetes album, very recomended as well. https://youtu.be/Rbzi14EO5ZQ?list=P.....418BB4ADBF6C46

Thank you for sharing. I listened to all of the Crying Suns OST. It was nice, and the premise of the game sounds interesting too. I'll listen to the other one soon.
A lot of the visual inspiration for Calypso comes from Trigun, if you know it? When I've written about Calypso and Jove I have often listened to the Trigun OST too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyT.....AC1A09C7E6B7F7 (playlist) "Blue Summers" is a track I have used in particular when writing certain specific parts that relate to the mood of my 'sona. And "Sound Life ~ Rem" is one I have listened to when I want to think about the sense of vastness, melancholy, longing, and adventure.

Thanks for taking the time. I have heard songs from Trigun in the past (but the anime itself is a mystery to me, I only know a few things about it), I don't think I've listened to the full OST yet, I'll do it today, I'll keep those tracks you mention in mind, thanks for the insight :)
Planetes is an anime as well by the way, but it is very unknown.

Opacities are very difficult for me, thank you! I thought of adding stars at one point but I would have overdone it, probably.
This is probably one of the nicest gas giants I've painted so far, but I kind of like the one I did here, for the colour variations.

Yeah, that background with the starry sky and the planet looks very clean, as well as the tail edit you did in the crocodile, there's a really nice diference between the colors you choosed to use in the drawing, everything can be seen very well, and that's something I want to do better myself. The (digital?) pen on the head was unexpected, I like it heh.
