Your pain sounds like my mother's as well. She's been trying her darndest to grow berries for a while and every winter the rabbits would eat her berry bushes on her. She didn't find out until recently, I'd say last season, that the berries only develop on new growth. Which is what the rabbits loved eating off her plants. So, fix the bunny problem fix the lack of berries. :)
They don't all ripen at the same time, but don't wait more than a day or two; harvest the ripe ones immediately. Otherwise hornets will swarm and absolutely destroy them. Also, blackberries don't keep worth stink even in the fridge, so use or freeze them right away. This is the first year we've managed to harvest anything substantial, but the production is unreal.
