I really like this pose. It's close to standing at attention, but just relaxed enough not to be. And there's something very charming about the confused stare.
I feel like maybe he had been standing at attention but then the commander got a cell call from his wife and now he's just sort of waiting for commander to finish being chewed out for forgetting their anniversary.
