In the early 2040's the Artemis corporation supported the Allied Nations during the Oil Wars and the conflicts involving China and Korea. Knowing full and well that no one in the world can really be trusted with using nuclear weapons, the Supervisor launched a set of 24 specially designed and self sufficient Techanoid frames into orbit to deter the use of nuclear armaments from being used.

Large, space station sized insectoid Techs built to resemble dragonflys kept a watchful eye over the Earth. Armed with a large flock of maintenance drones to perform repairs and to salvage nearby broken satellites and debris, the Dragonfly series were unique. Powered not only by large generators, they were also solar powered as well, allowing them to maintain a very long operating life. Their primary weapon is a large, central laser array mounted in their abdomen. Utilizing N-diffuser technology, they would first fire a concentrated laser into any nuclear missile, rendering the warhead harmless before causing the weapon to explode when hit by a follow up tracer laser. While they were very successful in stopping any launched nuclear missiles from anywhere in the world, the Dragonflys couldn't do much against nuclear armed suicide bombers and RPG tactical nukes. However, they were still useful in making multiple orbital strikes during the North Korean invasion into the South, though not effective enough to stop them. They had more luck in taking out multiple Chinese units and strongholds though, enough to force them to surrender their attacks into Japan and Russia. After the wars, they maintained a ever watchful eye over mankind as silent protectors.

Until one was hacked in 2045 and attacked mankind, using it's laser weapons to damage multiple cities world wide. Only by quick thinking by the other units did they managed to stop the malfunctioning unit. Destroying 6 units before being destroyed herself by 2 others forcing her into the Earth's atmosphere which resulted in the destruction of the other two the remaining units decided on their fates. Kept too far from man to have them properly maintain them, they realize they would be more of a danger than defense. Without order from Artemis, several decided to destroy themselves by forcing themselves to reenter Earth's atmosphere and burning up in the process. Others simply shut themselves off and continue to drift in space.

It is rumored that there is one unit that refused to destroy herself, one calling itself Annie. She has remained hidden for a very long time now, and has been watching over man silently. In the future, if curiosity takes the better of her, one can only hope she doesn't decide to use her weapons on us.
