Chapter II
The surprise of his life
The next day, Wolf entered his apartment in another part of Corneria City and closed the door behind. He had just returned from a daily workout, so he had a few hours before he had to leave for the poolparty at Melissa's home. He removed his vest and sat down on the couch. His apartment was very scrubby and falling apart. Plus, his apartment building was in a rough part of Corneria City, with various street gangs and homeless people cluttering the streets and sidewalks. He would hope the city would do something about it someday.
He sat down on his recliner with a root beer bottle he got from his refridgerator in the kitchen and turned on the television.
"Nothing but a bunch of brain-dead garbage." Wolf said to himself while channel-flipping, "Realty shows? Who likes that garbage? Gee, I wonder who got voted off the planet."
He finally found a James Bond film, so he kept it there. He was a fan of the James Bond films since childhood, and both he and Melissa would go see them whenever they were in the theaters. He missed her and he regretted leaving her to lead Star Wolf.
He ate his dinner, then entered his bedroom to get his bathing suit.
A few hours later, Adam emerged from his bedroom on the second floor of the house and began to head down to the backporch where Melissa, Fox, and Krystal were. He had a slim body, thick, shoulder-length, hair dyed dark-brown, and was only 13 years old. He had a pair of brown swimshorts.
"Mom?" Adam said to her, "Is the poolparty going on outside right now?"
"Yes, sweetheart." Melissa replied, "Go on outside. We'll be right out."
"Yes, mom." Adam replied
He turned and left through the back door. Krystal watched him leave then turned her attention to Melissa.
"Does Adam know he's Wolf's son?" She asked her
"Yes he does." Melissa replied, "All I told him he was a good person, but made a lot of bad choices.
"Don't Krystal and I know it." Fox said with a sigh, "We've noticed Adam is nothing like his father."
"That's how I raised him," Melissa replied with a smirk, "I told him not to ask when he meets him."
"Is Wolf coming to the party?" Fox asked
"I invited him," Melissa replied, "but I don't know if he's coming. I hope he does. Adam needs his father."
Fox looked at her and nodded. Krystal did the same thing. The two of them got up and headed for the backyard. The doorbell rang and her young orange tigeress nanny walked up to it and answered it.
"Oh my gosh." The malamute said to Wolf in surprise, "Are you on the guest list, sir?"
"Yes I am." The one-eyed lupine replied,
"It's all right, Carol." Melissa said from in the livingroom, "Let him in."
Carol opened the door all the way and allowed Wolf to walk into the house. Melissa greeted him by kissing him on the lips, then walked with him to the backyard. The backyard was crowded with partyguests. Some were talking, some were swimming in the pool, and some were dancing to the music the dj Melissa hired was playing. Wolf growled silently when he saw Fox and Krystal there, talking to Adam.
"Adam? Come over here." She called to him
The grey wolf pup left the McClouds and walked up to her and Wolf, knowing Wolf was his father but was told not to mention it to him.
"Yes, mom?" He asked
"Adam? This is Wolf O'Donnell." Melissa replied, "He's an old friend of mine."
"Hi." Adam greeted him.
Wolf barely looked at him. He had never been around children, and he wasn't good around them. He also couldn't help but notice Adam beared a striking resemblance.
"How ya doing, kid." He replied in a tone that embarrassed Melissa, so she thought of an idea.
"Adam, would you go and get me and Wolf some drinks?" She asked Adam, who nodded and left, then took Wolf back into the house.
"Wolf, I didn't like the way you spoke to him." Melissa spat, referring to Adam
"Well, I'm sorry," Wolf said in defense, "But me and children don't mix."
"Better get use to seeing him more often," Melissa told him, "because he is your son. Your own flesh and blood."
Wolf stumbled backwards in shock as soon as he heard those words. He stumbled over the couch and landed on the floor behind. His world fell down before him. Melissa helped him back up onto his feet.
