More of “those” snacks in the mess hall. More of the appetite enhancers that made him eat himself so huge in the first place.

Clearly this was all a trap, with the mess hall announcement as the final bit of bait before it snaps shut. It starts with the “snack” box left out on the bridge, letting gullible marks self-identify by grabbing bites without reading the box or questioning anything. The enhancer in their systems, the marks then proceed to eat themselves massive. Then, as they approach a tipping point, news is spread of the “snacks” being available in the mess hall, luring the newly made blobs over. Once they partake in the enhancers once more, their fates are sealed, their mobility lost from that point onward. Helpless, hungry, treated more like equipment for whatever use the ship has for the butterballs. Probably something that involves making them even bigger.

This idea is stuck in my head now.
