If you’ve read any of my Folly of a tale, this is far before that. This is a slice of the beginnings if you will, before Neal started plying the space lanes. Still quite a ways from the end, but at least a hint of a tale.

Just read this, interesting look into Neal's past.
One part with Grace where she presented herself to him, had me go a bit weak at the knees. The though of such a big strong female doing that... *purrs* granted would have been so much better if it hadn't been a conditioning response. She did still seem to have enough fire in her despite all the slave conditioning...they must have captured her at a fairly young age to be able to break her in better without using drugs. One thing I am wondering is the reason she can't speak, is it conditioning or something else? perhaps we'll find out sometime if it has any relevance.
A very interesting reading session >^.^<

I was thinking she was hard to break, so they removed her vocal cords as part of her breaking. You have to remember this is a few hundred years before my Folly of a tale, so they’re not as good at it as they were with Leanna. Pain conditioning would still be in use and Groc was treated badly (and half starved.)
Along comes what ‘should’ be just another slave – but not only doesn’t he act like one, he doesn’t treat her like one either.
Needless to say others won’t like finding him in Rakshan space, but he has made a couple friends …
(And if a couple taurs we met in ‘second hand dreams of chakats’ are present as part of the group trying to keep peace between the humans and the Rakshani? – oops, spoiler! )

I like spoilers, they make my little Honda Civic look sexy and sporty... ;)
Thanks for the info, I knew this was set a long time before the Folly so I had been wondering how they did their slave conditioning back then. It would be hard, but then again everyone has a breaking point, even Rakshani, and they might probably have to push them pretty far or to near death...
Not exactly the most pleasant thing to think about... So,
"And now for something completely different."
After reading this the image of Neal in a sort of He-man pose with Groc (aka Grace) as battlecat or him as Lion-o from Thundercats with his Rakshani mates is just stuck in my head. =3
Shame I can't draw or I would so draw that mental image XD
