Welp after leaving PMC untouched for nearly two months and poor Dr Bennet in the closet for nearly a year... Nearly...
I finally pulled her out brushed off the dust and given her a new story in that grand story of her existence... She probably wouldn't thank me.
But that's not her choice so enjoy folks. ^_^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why was he being so distant? Sarah just could not understand it; especially after the way things had been. When Beckett found her that night it seemed she could never get him away; not that she was complaining, if anything that was a God sent.
Given her current state things had been quite isolating but Sarah understood that her new fox – human – thing body would likely cause a few issues if she just walked about the local area in broad daylight; though that was seemingly more of her concern than Beckett’s.
He’d been making suggestions that they could have gone out on rainy days were their likelihood of running into anyone was low, but Sarah rebuffed the suggestion still too concerned with getting caught. The best they compromised on was night-time walks: it was the only time Sarah felt safe to go out, hidden by the dark, clad in a long coat she felt certain that dressed like that she could get away without drawing any attention and even then there wasn’t much attention to be drawn.
She had to admit it was very liberating. Beckett would come with her to local parks and finally in the open space she was able to move around freely; running, jumping and sometimes climbing in the trees. She would quickly jump back down when she realised what she was doing. She’d brushed herself off once she hit the ground, not really thinking about how smoothly she just done all that.
Beckett would just laugh, though most of the time he just watch; amused to see this rusty blur zip about with no issues at all in her environment.
She’d give him a playful flick on the head for laughing, but when he gave her that awed look she couldn’t help but smile. She adored that smiling face and really being so active put her in such high spirits. By the end of the night she’d be picking him up and carrying him home just for the hell of it. The look on his face was priceless and by the time the two of them got home she’d keep him tight for the remainder of it; feeling so happy and just for a moment all was normal...
But now, now something started to change; something was boring at the inside of his head and while he kept going on night walks, kept that happy smile, something was wrong, something was falling away. He wouldn’t let her pick him up anymore, his attention was drawn away during their excursions and now he was no longer willing to let her get close. That was what drove her up the wall; her buddy, her sources of affection, the small bit of light was fading away and every time she tried to probe at the issue all she would get was a dim little smile.
“It’s nothing to worry about, am just feeling sick”
He was a terrible liar, but she feared pushing harder would only make him close up more and if he was to just break away she wouldn’t know what to do...
By the next morning Sarah found herself rolling out of bed to Beckett already primed and ready. It was nothing outstanding but in some way it impressed her. It was 7:00am, not even she was ready for anything not least till the clock hit 8:30am.
But seeing Beckett up, ready and rushing around had her crawling to the edge of the bed. “What are you doing?” she asked in a hollow tired voice, still not fully awake but trying her best to get her gears turning as her ears twitched.
That made him jump; clearly he was not expecting her to wake up.
“Oh, it’s nothing... I just have something I need to take care of”
He didn’t look at here when he said that and finally reaching a point she just stretched out and placing a hand onto Beckett’s shoulder; somewhat forcing his attention.
“You’re alright, right?” She spoke with a slightly blunt tone, it felt harsh but Beckett just kept his gaze toward the ground, a meek smile formed as his eyes came up to meet hers. They were eyes uncertain but glossed over with that unconcerned smile; “I’m taking care of it... you got nothing to worry about fluffy”.
He clearly was not being honest, something was troubling him and Sarah only wished he would tell her, but it was clear she couldn’t force the issue; she only softly rubbed at his shoulders, letting out a soft sigh as her ears continued to flick.
The two stayed quiet for a moment keeping their eyes locked but Beckett finally broke first as he looked back down to the floor; neither of them spoke another word as Beckett just let himself out.
Sarah could only watch him go as he walked over to the car. Her fur twitched uncomfortably; she did not like, she did not like this at all...
#########################################################
“Why the hell are we still here?” Abbot questioned as he looked out of the window. He’d been growing more and more paranoid as the days passed; unmarked soldiers in unmarked vans, unmarked helicopters, drones and silence from the lab... He kept in touch with a couple people back at Allen’s lab but now, now the line was cold... Something happened and now something was happening Abbot proclaimed.
At first Francis only thought it was paranoia but as Abbot went on Francis was struggling to contradict it; he had seen the suspicious drones and the black helicopters, he hadn’t seen the soldiers but he too noticed the silence from anyone that was still at the lab. Francis however was still not sure on the point someone was coming for them but he was coming to agreement that something was going on but still: “You need to stop stressing; you’re going to drive yourself up the wall” Francis commented as he went over to the window and looked outside.
The street was quiet; it seemed like nothing was going on these days. A small car started too pulled up outside of the house and with that Abbot was already throwing out speculations:
“Who the hell’s that? What are they doing here? I told you, I told you!”
Francis clapped him off the back of the head.
“Oh just stop you”
Though as the slightly similar face came out and started making his way over to the house the look on Francis’s face dropped, “It’s Beckett”.
“Beckett, why’s he here?” Abbot questioned as he looked over to Francis, but for that moment Francis seemed slightly absent.
Francis was quick to make his way over to the door and Abbot quick to follow behind him still baffled by what was going on.
Francis shepherd Beckett into the building practically yanking the man inside, “don’t fucking say it, please for the love of God!” Francis seemed to shout as he held Beckett against the wall in the door way. Abbot just looked about the two still absolutely lost to what was going on while Beckett only looked at Francis with a lost look in his eyes. He really should have known things were going to come to this point eventually.
“I know, I thought it would be fine...but” Beckett didn’t get a chance to finish as Francis let go balling his fists in frustration.
“How bad is it?” Francis asked but Beckett seemed to shrink into himself; the horror of his unfolding situation was dawning along with how totally inescapable it was.
“Take off your shirt” Francis ordered and too that Beckett looked up to Francis with fear. He didn’t want to; he wasn’t ready to so forwardly confront the issue. He was about to say something but he paused with his mouth slightly agape; Francis clicked to something. He reached forward jamming his index and middle finger into Beckett’s mouth prying it open... He didn’t need to say anything the evidences was right there; human teeth gone, replaced with clearly canine ones. They looked a little crowed for the minute but that issue would sort itself in a couple days, maybe a week if he was lucky, a day if things were that fucked.
“Get that piece of shit off your skin now if you still have any!” Francis ordered at this point, his anger more than likely only masking the fear he had. He practically forced Beckett out of his shirt though he didn’t put up any fight against it.
Francis paused once they pried the fabric cover off while Abbot who for the majority of the exchanged had watched completely out of the loop was finally able to click, “oh shit” that was all Abbot said as he stared.
Francis just stood there disgusted but in some way sympathetic; he should have know this would have been the result the day Beckett came to him in the lab, it was just a slip, she didn’t mean to and I couldn’t stop her. Estrus, such an intriguing thing and it had to come so close to clearing... If only biology waited a little longer it would have been fine but nature doesn’t click to the clocks we set... Francis would least give credit to how stable Beckett stayed; he probably broke a record.
Beckett however was just standing there maybe still not fully accepting of the situation before him though the physical reality was undeniable:
The sore like formation across his abdomen chest and arms (likely everywhere else too) were just the first sign of the ongoing metamorphosis. Other spots further along in their development fully ruptured as very familiar cream shaded fur showed itself, while other areas showed clear muscle development, it would likely be a mess if Francis had the chance to put him under an X-Ray.
“This is so bad, this is so fucking bad” Francis finally mumbled out as he rubbed his hand against his head... There was no solution for such a situation; no cure or a fix, or if there was to be one it was no were near completion or easy to get a hold of.
“I didn’t want to accept it, I couldn’t accept it... I thought you said I was fine?” Beckett finally forced his words out.
“I said it was promising; I never said there was no chance...” Francis responded firmly and no-nonsense, it had Beckett shut up fast; he just wanted to find some way out, some fix... Maybe even someone to blame... But it only came back to one thing.
“Does she know?” Francis questioned, it only seemed right Sarah should know; well least be told rather than meeting a new fox one morning. But Beckett’s eyes went wide; clearly this was something he wasn’t in favour off.
“I can’t... That would destroy her; she was in such a state after that and I can’t just...” He stopped. Francis was staring him out; this damming kind of stare that only helped to reinforce one thing; there was no getting out of this, no hiding. Sarah would know at some point, if she hadn’t already started to figure it out.
“Don’t you think she’d really appreciate it if you just told her? It’s not like you can put it off anymore... Unless you think her seeing your new form out of the blue would be for the best?”
Beckett couldn’t deny it, but his fear was still getting to him; he couldn’t even begin to imagine how she’d take such news and no matter how much he ran it through his head no scenario sparked a positive outcome... Francis relented from that point, but what he went onto did not inspire any good feeling.
“Look, you’ve other things to worry about; with the two of you changed I don’t think you’re going to have such a good time living in a city”
Francis could easily imagine it, Joe Bloggs freaking out in the face of such thing even Beckett couldn’t disagree; “What are you suggesting?”
“Just get out of the city, maybe the countryside; some place where you can live self-sustained till this all works out...” Now Francis had this concerned look on his face; though he least seemed to level it off...
“What are you talking about?” Beckett did not fully understand it, but at this point however Francis let Abbot take over.
“We’ve been catching some concerning stuff: drones, unmarked helicopters; I won’t be surprised if some armed soldiers show up; we think there could have been an outbreak and give it long enough they’ll have this city locked down”
Abbot was surprisingly collected, well mostly to Francis’s surprise; he thought Abbot was about to babble conspiracies though he stayed collected, but...
“Am still not sure myself... But regardless you soon to be altered state is not going to fit in with the city’s aesthetic; you and Sarah need to get out”.
Despite his interjection Abbot gave no comment just shaking his head as he parted from the situation. At this point Beckett was just acceptingly nodding his head, he held out a hand to take back his shirt and Francis was close to handing it back though he paused to reinforce one thing.
“The sooner you tell her, the quicker she can wrap her head around it and the less likely she’ll be to freak when you fully change... I mean I can’t even believe she hasn’t noticed those teeth”. Francis kept a hold of the shirt just waiting from Beckett to give some kind of reply...
“I know...”
The street was still quiet, oddly so for it being so early. Beckett checked both sides before crossing over to get to his car. He felt strange, not just in anticipation to what he was told and what he would have to do, but something else was itching at his back and it wasn’t just the fur.
He had one more inspection of the street before clambering back into his car; he couldn’t be worrying himself with the invisible forces. He needed to think about how to get out of the city, tell Sarah and deal with this progressing change... He really couldn’t believe Francis never noticed the tail... That thing was becoming a growing issue; with a mind of its own and he wouldn’t be able to get away with hiding it away much longer...
