Friend,
I've heard it said that change is the only constant. I can believe that to be true, but what I disagree with is the cynicism underlying the statement. It's often accompanied by some story of someone who left where they might’ve belonged to find something new. Granted, yes, I have seen that happen to others. I have done it myself. I have experienced it firsthand. But forgotten are the many instances where change has a positive impact. Change renews, it banished stagnation. Change may be the end of something, but also the beginning.
I am not changing my ways out of some form of pettiness or simple boredom. You may accuse me of having become cold, but not only is that taking it personally, it is an illusion caused by the truth. You may even accuse me of not even changing anything at all, and I would say that is due to a superficial view. Finally, you may accuse me of silent anger. That is not the case. I feel relief. I do not feel the need for anger. It is not gone from me, but a lesson I already had been taught yet did not understand has finally become understood by me.
I’ve heard it said that anger is like a sword which must be kept sheathed except when precisely necessary to use. This I knew but did not understand. I would tell myself it, but not act on the words. It is time I hold myself more accountable, on multiple fronts not limited to this.
I may fail to do so. I will likely fail. But failure, for as long as one is alive, can be a temporary thing. That is why change can be so positive. Failure is remedied by change. At least, if one sets expectations for what it can do. It cannot always bring back things that are lost, but it can bring forth new things to be cherished. It can be an iterative improvement on something broken, to make it complete once again. Such repair may not leave the thing looking the same, but it will be whole.
And as for the physical changes, well, frankly, that is none of your business.
