In Jestal's world, there exists a place in the world of dreams called Pegasus. Some people are able to enter it naturally, but anyone is capable of learning how to. It consists of a set of connected, flying islands that get more populated the closer you get to the center. The islands are kept in the air by a massive pair of wings on the two most outset islands.
Pegasus is kept flying to avoid falling into the Final Forest; a dark black land sitting below it. The Final Forest is the source of the Nightmare. In Pegasus, the Nightmare takes the forms of feral beasts.
Pegasus has been safe from the Nightmare for many years, until recently. A group of criminals from the waking world have been invading Pegasus to harness the power of the Nightmare to use for their own deeds. Worse so, they've discovered that a Nightmare can be created from the mind of a person inside Pegasus. These created Nightmares take the form of whatever the victim fears most about themselves.
However, what they don't know is that these can be defeated through great effort. By embracing and destroying that fear, you take your Nightmare's power for yourself, granting you a special ability within Pegasus.

Nilla Bee, considered a bit of a freak for her interest in the dark and macabre in the waking world, was forced to face her Nightmare upon her first visit to Pegasus. It took the form of shadowy, suited figures vaguely resembling her inattentive family (who rarely, if ever visit her at Fullbloom). They bemoaned everything about her, compared her unfavorably to other kids before flat out refusing to acknowledge her existence. She wondered if it would be better to leave everything she loved behind to be accepted. Just as she was about to give in, she heard a pair of voices; voices belonging to the friends she'd made at Fullbloom, Tabby and Jestal. The trio were all weird in some way, a way that brought them all together. Refusing to leave them behind, she stood to face the Nightmare.
Suddenly, the little rabbit wizard doll she carried everywhere sprung to life and spat fire, engulfing both the her and the Nightmare. When the flames subsided, there stood Nilla, dressed like a witch with a monstrous hat and black flames springing from her fingertips.
Having conquered her Nightmare, she joins Jestal and Tabby in their quest to learn the secrets of Pegasus and put a stop to whoever is creating the new Nightmares.

A while back I got really attached to Tabby and Nilla's designs, despite them initially being throwaway characters to fill out Fullbloom's roster of kids. The more I developed them the more I wanted to pair them up with Jestal as main characters (plus I'm a sucker for best friend trios).
So here's her powered-up self. Conquering her Nightmare granted her the power of a witch, just like the many heroes of the grim fantasy novels she loved. Her beloved doll turned into her monstrous hat (which is sentient and demands food or else it'll bite ya). I kinda felt all my previous designs were a bit conservative so I really tried to Nomura this one up. Besides the hat, the stitched heart ribbon is my fave.
