What a lot of casual Trek viewers often forget or don't notice is that in TNG onward, the uniform colour for command officers and engineering/crew officers were swapped, probably BECAUSE of the whole "Red shirts always die" thing in TOS. So in TNG, DS9 and Voyager, it was the goldshirts who were at the highest risk.

The fact that I own three starfleet uniforms of my own along with a couple phasers and several ship models shows just how entrenched in Trek lore I am. XD
