Consider that the BTR-50 entered in service in early 1950´s and is still in service, sometimes VERY modernized, sometimes just as was built, in countries as Iraq, North Korea, Egypt, Syria, Serbia (mines have their schemes),Indonesia, ALL ex Yugoslavia´s countries, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Cuba and a loong etc. Protection for the troops? barely enough for rifle bullets. Think in the BTR-50 as a box for 20 soldiers (was an OPEN box until the Hungarians massacrated the early BTR-50s in 1956) , fully able to float and move in the water thanks to its two hydrojets. Not good for direct combat, but yes excellent to mobilize your soldiers or carry cargo. Still, Iraq ones still in service are being used against what remains of ISIS with a HUGE AND TALL home made turret with a ZU-23 AA Cannon inside O_o
My ones are a command version, with lot better communications devices, a huge table inside for the maps and any armament...except one with a machinegun in the front. And one is being used as ambulance because its lot of internal space
One is 1:56 scale, the other 4 are 1:72, all of them 3D printed
