A particularly rare and dangerous variety of basilisk that tried to kill a baby black dragon the party was escorting to the safety of their home base town.
Basilisks are a natural predator of young dragons, and in fact cannot achieve sentience without eating one and absorbing its magic. In places with a lot of destructive dragons they're popular with people, though their unintelligent spawn can be quite dangerous.
