THE SWAMP DRAGON
"I walked in the silence of the swamp, along the path that would lead me to the refuge and, therefore, to safety. There was a thick fog that covered my path, the strong smell of stagnant water reached my nostrils. I stopped to rest in a spot where the fog was less thick, and you could see the trees growing in it. I heard strong footsteps coming from my left. A roar tore through the surrounding air, making me jump. I hid behind some rocks not far from where I was, praying the Lord that the creature would not smell me and eat me.
"It was at that point that I saw with my own eyes the dragon that infested the swamp: the yellowish eyes, the vertical pupils, with the veins that could be distinguished well; the green scales; the horns with the algae hanging from them, a sign that the dragon often went to the deeper areas to hunt; smoke came out of his nostrils and that meant he was breathing fire.
"For a moment, our eyes met. 'It's over!' I thought. I closed my eyes, waiting for the end.
After standing there for several minutes, the majestic creature returned in the direction it had come, probably because it had heard something. I hastened to get out of my hiding place and walk briskly so as not to be spotted. That was the first and only time I saw the swamp dragon. Then I never met him again, nor did I hear about him."
A simple illustration featuring a dragon. :)
I did a drawing of this dragon a long time ago when I was in middle school. I had copied it from a drawing manual that taught how to draw dragons. A few days ago, I decided to do it again and to attach this short story.
Hope you can appreciate.
