Small, family-owned North Atlantic lobster boats like these are almost always painted bright primary and pastel colours to make them more visible when they're in a thick grey fog on a grey sea. The individual colour scheme of each boat also serves as an easy identifier when at sea.
Seeing several of them tied up at pier or brought up on land for maintenance can be a delightfully multicoloured sight.
Amusingly, the boat owners here sometimes paint their homes to match their boats. That can make for some borderline cartoonish streetscapes.
