thats what I mean, operating levels arent new distributions, they're just the level at which you control the system, level 5 is what you work at with full graphical interface, which is what ubuntu is decent at, but levels 3-4 are where you control the system with text commands only. In general.
You have far more control over the system, and far less resources used when you operate with text instead of explorers, but takes years of practice, and a lot of reading and research until it becomes second nature. I have a lot of experience with linux, and it makes for great servers, but imo its a horrible os for any home user who has to use a graphical crutch.
You should probably stop shooting yourself in the foot and use windows, it would be a much better os for you.

it also tends to have poor driver support, the ones that are available usually dont work as well as they could, and games either dont run or have to rely on wine, which doesnt work as well as actually owning a supported os... as I said, its great for small businesses and servers, but for large networks and home use, any neutral technician will agree that windows is superior. I'm a microsoft certified technician for xp, vista, and win7, (for what its worth) and have extensive training with various linux and unix systems.
Anyone who says linux is superior to windows in every way and use is just as delusional as any fanatic, except sadly linux fanatics tend to drool over the os just to feel superior to other high school nerds, and rarely know how to really make use of the system's finer points.

i do admit, win XP is better, and maybie some other of there OS's, buuut...
...if your a programmer like me then i tend to make and/or update drivers for programes and there are plenty of programes that are for unix systems as well, so your not constricted with a few games. Some if windows XP's and 7's ideas have even been taken form Apple and GNU OS's, but they just happend to make them sooner becouse they arent openscource and have more poeple. and microsoft are running out of ideas to keep there market.
I kinda lost the point of what im typing about so this is all im gonna write for now

Wow... I am amazed by all of the people in here who are trying to impose their beliefs as to how their OS of choice are superior to yours, Admc, and even going as far as to tell you that you basically don't deserve to choose which OS that you want to use and that they know what is best, sort of like a government that has grown too large & corrupt. If Ubuntu was as bad as every naysayer in here says, then it certainly would not be one of the most popular Linux distros in the world. Another point is that Windows is hardly a perfect OS. No OS is perfect, period. In fact, everything made by man is imperfect, so trying to strike an argument about something as trivial as which OS is the best at everything is silly and argumentative for no real reason.
Admc, I'm glad that you have enough sense to not try to carry-on any kind of argument with the trolls in here. They probably work for Microsoft anyway. LOL! J/K
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 right now and it's not because I'm a fanboy, or whatever else you want to throw at me. I have valid reasons for using it. The main one is because Microsoft has pissed me off personally and I absolutely refuse to give them any more of my money for as long as I live. I am a man of principal *gasp!*. Another reason why I use Ubuntu is because it works for my needs. I'm not out to impress anyone else with my vast nerdy knowledge of the inner workings of any OS and certifications don't impress me, either. I've had bad experiences with certified twits who can't see beyond what their OS-specific "tools" discs tell them. Example: I had a laptop in for warranty repair involving something that had nothing to do with the hard drive. Well, some "certified tech" replaced it probably because it had Linux on it and I'll be willing to bet that the "tech's" MS-only tools didn't recognize the non-MS filesystem and thus deemed it bad. Either that, or the tech was just an idiot who shouldn't even be allowed to walk and chew gum at the same time, for fear of choking. Needless to say, the original problem persisted and back the laptop went, along with its very upset owner. It was eventually deemed a lemon and I got another laptop of a different brand and have been as pleased as punch with it ever since.
Oh, and I will not feed the trolls. I merely decided to make this post because I felt that Admc was being unfairly attacked merely because of his choice of operating system by some apparently insecure individuals. I also viewed it as being no different than Ford Vs Chevy arguments, which are equally silly. It all boils-down to personal preference, which means that there is no right or wrong. (That last statement is not absolute, BTW, so don't even try to troll it.)
Oh well, I'm now going to use this Ubuntu box which is "obviously" horrible at gaming, to play Second Life on. It does so rather well, I must say, with all of the graphics settings set at their maximum values. My computer is also using a fanless Sparkle GeForce 9500GT card, which I have been told sucks. Hmm... it seems to be working just fine (graphics crisp and action smooth), to me and it didn't cost one arm and three legs, either. at the so-called "experts". (BTW, I'm not an expert in computers but I am an experienced user who also knows what is best for himself. Please send any and all flames to your fireplace, where they belong, as I will not respond to any. ;)
PS: This computer is dual-boot with Win7 (Surprise!), which I had paid for before I hated MS as much as I do now. (remember, it's personal)
Cheers!

ROFL at your "life story" comment. Yeah, sometimes I just don't know when to stop typing. It's probably a good thing that you aren't around me all day. I talk a LOT, especially when caffeinated.
Yep, Ubuntu definitely runs faster than Windows and I have noticed that programs load more quickly, without the use of benchmarking software or a stopwatch. I also like the fact that it doesn't use DLLs, or have a system registry, each of which are too fragile. Ubuntu doesn't constantly cause the computer's hard drive to go crazy even when the computer is sitting idle, as it almost constantly does when running Windows, so that's another reason I like it.

I know it's kind of ancient, but I can't fathom what was with those two telling you to use another OS . I still use Windows, but only for MS Office 2007 since one of my classes need *.docx files with line numbering. If it weren't for wine, then I'd probably still be using Windows. All the games that I used to play on my Windows computer work fine on my desktop (the desktop PC used to be XP).
Right now, I'm currently using Arch Linux. It's insane how customizable that distro is.

I think holding more than one OS is space wasting. I don't like to waste space on my HDD, because I've got small disk (100 GB).
I heard lot about Arch Linux, but I didn't used this distro. I'm not going to change distro soon. I think Ubuntu is cool and I don't want do change it :)

Well both of my computers only boot one OS, so it's not as space wasting. My desktop's only got a 60 GB hard drive, but is much more usable than my laptop since it doesn't do mini-freezes (except if I used KDE on my desktop. I have no idea why it does so with KDE, but it just happens).
As for your distro choice, that's perfectly fine :p. Not going to push anyone to try out a certain distro.
On a more random note, what's the video card you have, how much CPU, and how much RAM do you have on your PC? I've got an Nvidia GeForce 210, 1.8GHz CPU, and 2GB RAM.
