I love your take on Tigerstar being such a soft dad to his kids. Aside from it just being really cute, it makes a really interesting contrast to how he treats Featherkit, Stormkit, and Mistyfoot (who is a mother), later.
Not to mention it adds more reason for Tawny and Bramble to grapple with joining him later. He was exiled before they could remember him in the books, Goldenflower didn't even plan on telling them who their father was.
