This was a pic done back in 2004, basically as a practice painting on human anotomy/faces, Christa is the daughter of a cousin of mine. ( She now is about 7 yrs old. I have had some practice in the past with life sketches, but this is the second full color illustrated drawing of a human child. Elsa the lioness is a caracter from my Max & Devon stories, ( Max's sister who appears randomly in the story series.) There is an "original" Elsa & Christa pic i have done aswell, around 2000-2001, when christa was only about a year old.

Two points.
A Canadian did a three month "experiment" in Africa recently where he progressively acclimatized a pride of lions in the wild to his presence. When the experiment ended he was able to come to within 30 feet of them without being harmed or taken undue notice of. The documentary is called "Into the Lions' Den".
Secondly, last year a young girl (13?) was beaten and left out in the bush by relatives presumably to be killed. A pride of lions came to the crying girl and surrounded her, protecting her throughout the night. In the morning when the park rangers who had been called arrived, the lions simply got up and walked away. Almost as if they were saying, "We found one of your 'cubs' and were waiting for you to come pick her up. Our job here is done." :)

I saw that "Lions' Den" show.....Personaly I think he was just being cocky and wanted to show off, even though he said it was for the good of man and lion. Basicly, it was just plain stupid.
But that girl one, that seems legit, this one had emotions, and a sense of interspecies agreement.

I totally agree with you about that fellow. It seemed that the whole experiment was all about him, and what he was doing, and how wonderful he was, and he he he he he. But still there were a few points to be drawn from it such as being aware of one's own stance and behavior with animals. On my own I have learned that slowly blinking in the presence of cats sends the signal that you are at ease and not about to attack.
As to the news article about the girl and the pride of lions, all I can offer in the way of confirmation is when I am ill in bed my little "pride" of cats (eight in all) will all come up and snuggle with me -- coughing and sneezing not withstanding. Are they sensing that I am in distress and gathering around me to offer "the big furless cat" a form of social protection? Don't know. Maybe they are, and maybe that was just what was happening with that little girl.

Awww.... That's beautiful. I like the bright shine in that lion's eyes. In real life that child would be in real danger but this this is so touching.
