Some guy on the area where I work used to come by and rip apart our trash bags to take out the bags the wine concentrate comes in, but left the rest of the trash spread around the bags. We eventually had to get one of those little shed like things to lock away our trash.
Last Saturday I found that the part of the latch that keeps the lid closed had been snapped off. I had a lot of time today and my brain works in odd ways, especially when bored. I unscrewed the broken bit from the lid and then took some stiff wire I keep around for just such "projects". I bent the wire to the same basic shape of the old latch and screwed it back in.

Will it hold? Maybe not, but it'll keep the lid down from casual inquiries,

The boss thanked me and said it was "A good MacGyver."
