So in the slightly bonkers 1960 King Features Syndicate Popeye cartoon ``Popeye and the Magic Hat'' (Jack Kinney productions, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=830KsuVDAO8&t=995s ) Brutus uses his magic wand to turn Popeye into a monkey. And you know? It kind of works. It's got me curious why there wasn't a cartoon where the characters were themselves, but animals, so they could do the usual sort of business and toss in some furry puns and have it seem fresh and novel. I mean, I know why; budget. But still, it's curious they never tried.
