The thing is, a fart is essentially gaseous -- we're talking molecular sizes, hare. A virus is larger and more complicated, and most (especially COVID) need moisture to survive. There's far too much bad information out there. People are more likely to believe an actor who was tossed out of drama school than a doctor who spent decades earning his diploma and credentials. I don't want to get into it here, but people tend to believe simplistic lies rather than the harsh reality.
I will agree with you, but the disinformation is the killing point. When a normal person 'detects' a lie, they are doubly on guard, and more likely, then, to believe the wrong things. In the very beginning, I had a world renowned brain surgeon tell me and Gloria, 'It's just the flu.'
Of course, that was also the final line in one of Steven King's better stories.

My girlfriend's grandmother retired last year (at the age of 95) after a 70+ year career in General Practice, although in the last 15 years she recertified in Gerontology because most of her clients were over 60. She considers specialists narrow-minded and shortsighted; they don't care about the whole person, just their particular branch of medicine.
And I don't know in which cereal box Randal Howard Paul found his M.D., but he's an ophthalmologist, not an epidemiologist. Hell, my degree is in computer science and the man's arguments sound specious to me.

Counter-point fart analogy: If someone's gonna cut a fart in your face would you rather they do it bare-ass or with their Hanes on to withhold skid-marks? Surgeons wear masks for a reason.
In all seriousness though I know a very healthy young soldier who this virus floored for a month. It's not something to mess with, and for those with ongoing health conditions (like my partially collapsed lung that makes me cough blood) it poses a very real danger still. The cases are also causing a strain on the medical system. Last week a neighbor of mine suffered a medical emergency and had to be taken three counties away because all hospitals in the area were full with Delta Variant patients. I've had my own doctor tell me this virus could kill me, it's why I was vaccinated first out of my family.

and love returned... I had it for two weeks, Gloria was in the hospital for five days, and my sister in law was in the hospital for three months. No, it is not something to mess with.
also - yes the hospitals are filling up. Gloria works within the medical system, and the numbers don't lie.
as for me - I will not live in fear, and that is what is being pushed 'world wide'... great strides have been made in fighting this demon, and I am happy for that...

I think it's less fear and more an awakening sense of collective responsibility in the face of an emergency. Nobody's been asked to live in fear, but we've been given a few good suggestions for speeding up the process to return things to normal. That said, once again though: If I get this I've got a much higher chance of dying. We're not out of the woods yet and I think a little sense of proactive community protection is a very different thing from living in fear.
No, I didn't notice the camera quick enough!
I really enjoyed spending that morning with all of you, this year's convention in general felt like a few days of respite, I've missed hearing everyone's stories and catching up with what all has happened in the last year or so.

Funny you mention trouble signing for Vixyy; this wuff had to practice signing "Vrghr Dragonwolf" for a few days ahead of the con, just to get a distinctive signature that was his avatar and not the human. *grin*
Now the 'poor human' has to be real careful signing the receipts from restaurants and such, to keep from signing the wuffy's name instead of his own! *LOL*
