Standing tall with the confidence of an innovative pathfinder, Ciara Loveless utilizes her breezy charisma and unconventional vision to blaze a trail of her own with effortless aplomb.


Ciara Loveless was born into a life of wealth and luxury only a privileged few of her countrymen could ever claim as their own. Ciara came of age in the affluent suburb of Borrowdale in the north of Harare, Zimbabwe, where she lived with her mother, father, and older brother, Kevin. Ciara’s mother, a cheetah, is a Mozambican-born investment analyst, and her father, a domestic cat, was a former Zimbabwean rugby player turned entrepreneur whose ancestry is traced directly to the colonial settlers of what was once Rhodesia. As a young child, Ciara was close to her mother who taught her Portuguese creole among other skills from an early age, but while their relationship strengthened over time, the same couldn’t be said for her and father, Kieran. While their bonds were strong when she young, Ciara came to feel that her father had begun to overlook her wants and needs in favor of nourishing Kevin’s prodigious aptitude.

Compared to the impoverished conditions of life in Zimbabwe beyond Borrowdale, Ciara’s life in this exclusive enclave was one of marked contrast substantiated by the myriad opportunities her family’s inherent wealth afforded. From ages four to fourteen, the cheetah attended The Heritage School, a private academy that utilized material from the standard British curriculum, where her brash and blunt personality began to shape itself. Ciara’s social inclinations made it easy for the girl to befriend any one of her classmates, but her oftentimes outspoken and ironically unsociable nature kept her from developing many intimate friendships. Although fiendish clever from an early age, Ciara’s disorganized habits in school tended to hinder her innovative spirit, but the girl’s innate eccentricity, combined with her bold personality, endeared the cheetah cub to everyone but made her beholden to nobody. While the cheetah’s experience wasn’t unlike that of most other wealthy children in Borrowdale, the trajectory of Ciara’s life forever changed upon uncovering an ostensibly ordinary object at home.

Hidden away within an unassuming drawer in her father’s office, Ciara found what, at first blush, seemed to be an ornate, silver talisman and papers pertaining to the exchange of arcane relics. Captivated by the inexplicable allure of this talisman, the twelve-year-old girl seized the entrancing artifact from its dwelling and took it with her to school the next day. While there, Ciara showed off her find to a select few of her closest friends, but in short order, increasingly more misfortunate seemed to follow those around her and only compounded as the day progressed. Everything climaxed later that day when a construction accident caused one of Ciara’s classmates to sustain a serious injury which left the girl hospitalized in critical condition. At first, Ciara didn’t think of these tragic events as interconnected, but once it became apparent to the cheetah’s father that his daughter remained completely unharmed in lieu of what transpired, Kieran Loveless knew then that a once locked drawer in his office had opened itself in her presence.

Kieran knew that the talisman, a cursed object, had subconsciously summoned his daughter and awakened her latent propensity for wizardry and spellcraft which had run in his family since the Norman Invasion of Gaelic Ireland. Ultimately, his reaction was to have Ciara study abroad where she’d be educated in the implementation of proper witchcraft at The Kingswood Observatory, a boarding school in the London borough of Westminster. For most her life, Ciara wasn’t aware of her family’s occult pedigree, and from the ages of fourteen to eighteen, she was thrust into a new world of magic and monster hunting that frequently felt unfriendly and seemed wholly outlandish. Though Ciara eventually found it possible to thrive academically here, the young cheetah never shook these feelings of estrangement encompassing her stay in London. Over time, Ciara began to resent her father who, from her perspective, had sent her abroad if only to wash his hands clean of her and devote even more energy and resources into nurturing Kevin’s propitious future.

Guilty over injuring a friend all those years ago and altogether disenchanted by the rigid, hierarchical world in which she found herself, Ciara was thoroughly enthralled by Charles Wheeler, a black ram and American technomage whose unorthodox method and vision amazed the young woman. At eighteen, Ciara became Wheeler’s apprentice and traveled with him back to the United States where she hopes to one day master this synthesis of black magic and bleeding edge technology at Decanter, a private military company centered in Denver, Colorado.
