Look familiar? Well, it should.
If anyone has watched me for a year or longer, around last year I submitted a dirty sketch of a costume... I deleted it because it was very messy and.. Just.. Not good. Anyway! Here's a 2.0 version.
For those that don't know, every year my dad runs a haunted trail to raise money for handicapped kids, and this is the costume I've been working on for that. It's a big.. Taxidermist monster thing. While I pretty much have this together already, I'm looking to make improvements.
The last version was one coherent animal.. But after buying some fur and stuff that didn't quite match, I wanted to go with it and make it a clusterfuck of animals. I thought about putting antlers, but I like it better like this.
MAYBE this year I'll get pictures of it, but we get so busy, no one who works on it really brings their cameras.
Things I have to do to the costume now:
- Put big stitches on joints, and make a patch.
- Get some new longer fur to add to it. (Anyone know where I can find some? Please link me, if so.)
- Make the tail. (Any advice is welcome.. It's supposed to be like a spine)
- Make the jaw articulate. (advice welcome here, too)
- Black out the eyes with cloth. (places to get the cloth, if anyone knows, link me)
- Cast some new claws.. The old ones are crap.

Ha, this actually started because I found a neat mask. I kinda went with it and designed and designed stuff including a body for it.. And now I think I'm going to cut up the mask and put foam in to to make the jaw move and stuff. My dad liked the idea more and more, so he's just let me build on it mostly because I've been doing it with my own money for the trail.
You know, that's one reason why I don't post concept art of it. xD
I know there are a lot of skull faced things on FA. Lord forbid someone get mad at me for having a character with actual bones instead of the markings. Lol. BUT ASIDE FROM THAT. I'm going to attempt to. Last year was a quick put together of it so we could have it done in time to use it on the trail, so pictures were the last things on our minds. It was its crash course, and my dad encouraged it by getting the hooves for the feet for me. Haha. We were surprised at how many people liked the character I put into it, so.. He wants me to work on it again this year and possibly use it as a "mascot" kinda thing.
Apparently I have an odd talent of acting like a silent, playfully terrifying taxidermy beast.. So much so in fact, that some of the people I knew didn't realize it was me. People liked me because I could apparently be playful one moment where they were comfortable around me, yet terrifying and odd the next. This is the closest thing to a fursuit I've owned / experienced.

That's awesome.
I'd love to work on something like that.
It's two months till Halloween. >_>
You might be able to jack some stuff from a local costume store or place selling holloween stuff for the tail, like maybe those skeleton hands or something.
The fine mesh for the eye holes might also be availible there.
And you could always just jerry rig some claws out of plastic and tape.
Or something.

Well, I plan to cast the claws with cardboard and what I made my Killinger mask out of. As for the tail, I figure if that doesn't work maybe some sculpty stuff and wire. I used cloth on the eyes on Killinger, I might do it here. I'd like to find mesh, but there's not really anywhere locally I can get it. D:
Totally.
If it's stupid, but it works, it ain't stupid. X3
I have some old antlers, too. They're kinda small, maybe a foot and a half across each. I was gonna keep em just for decorations. :V
I wouldn't mind parting with them if you want them. :U
What kinda patch are you gonna put on it?
You could always braid some large cord or something for the stitches
You can totally make some good fur using crochet cord...line...stuff. I find link/tut soon.
-I'm pretty sure if you look, or I look, there's a moving jaw tutorail for fursuits. Somewhere....

Yeah, I think I was going to leave it without the answers.. The way the mask is it would be hard to mount and heavy. D:
I appreciate the thought, though.
The patch is just going to be a different type of fur. I plan to use one type for the body (which is already made) and two different types for the arms as well as another for the patch. I'm still unsure of how I'm going to "blend" them. I gotta do some coloring. There is large string around here somewhere, I know, because one of my previous art teachers had some.. Repaired a book bag with it, actually, that's what's got me fixated on the large stitches.
As for the jaw thing.. Haha, I'm going to attempt it via looking up tutorials. Wish me luck!

I'd totally jack a half or full head thingy from a helmet just to put antlers on it.
Lol.
Maybe I'll do something similar for this holloween, just with the antlers.
Cool with the stitches. :V
Still need how to do the fur? :V
Cuz with yarn, you could make it killlleeerr long.
Like hair.
I think they make wigs with it. ;~;
Awesome.
I DON'T THINK YOU NEED LUCK RIGOR
I MEAN
YOU'RE JUST SO KICK ASS IT SHOULDN'T BE TOO MUCH OF A CHALLENGE
XD
But still.

I love that tail concept! I'd say that when it gets closer to Halloween, you'll be able to find a cheap plastic skeleton, or parts of a skeleton. A smaller one would be perfect, if you chopped his spine off and reversed it (So that the head would be facing away from your body).
To make the jaw articulated, http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/tuto.....ls/fursuithead , that website should be helpful. A lot of fursuit makers use complicated coil, metal, and other contraptions for the jaws, but I think it's much too complicated. Also, with a light-weight mask I used once, simply spirit-gumming, or ductaping (not a very good idea, but works), the bottom/jaw of the mask to my chin worked well. I think attaching the mask to a balaclava should work as well.
http://www.mendels.com/fur2.shtml . This website was recommended to me by a friend, but I've never ordered from them before. I've seen some longer furs at JoAnnes and Hancock's fabric in the colder months, but they can be completely unreliable.
I think that's all I can help with. I wish you the best of luck! <3
