Had a go at drawing some angels as described in the bible. Seraph, Cherubim and Ophanim respectively. It was an interesting dive because some features are often clear- for example the Seraph appear in Judaism, Christianity, and Islamic writings and often are depicted with 6 wings. In the bible, it mentions they used their wings to cover their face and feet.
Later on eyes are mentioned, but they are also being described as 6-winged, multi-eyed ox, lion, man and eagle as separate 'living creatures'.
Which melds into the descriptions of the Cherubim later on:
"And this was their appearance: they had a human likeness, but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings. Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot. And they sparkled like burnished bronze. Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. ... As for the likeness of their faces, each had a human face. The four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle. Such were their faces. And their wings were spread out above. Each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while two covered their bodies."
It's hard to tell from the writing is what's being described is a creature on one body, but each side has a different face and set of wings, or one body with 4 faces, 4 wings and...4 arms? It's hard to imagine. But I did my best to do something a being described. Considering the angels are also described as sparkling like topaz, burning like coals and moving like the darting of lightning, I imagine as a creature that's hard to pin down its true likeness.
Then there is the Orphanism. Described as wheels within wheels and having many eyes. Wings aren't mentioned, but I felt like adding them because wings feature so heavily. But funny how the type of wing is never mentioned., Only now do I think that the wings could be like any species on earth. We sort of go for the 'blinding white swan' look these days, including me. Older depictions often have red, gold or even a green-blue sets of wings.

With the surge of "biblically accurate angels" depiction, which have brought us so many awesome designs, I have to admit, I’m a bit sad that none have depicted what the Bible actually calls angels. Cherubim, Seraphim and Ophanim are all celestial beings of Heaven, but they are different from the Malakhim, the messengers that are translated with the term angel. They usually appear indistinguishable from humans, but also have a true form, with their bodies made of precious stones and heads of flaming light (This description can be found in Daniel 10 and Revelations 1). Whatever the case, this is gorgeous! You did a really great job!
