Through out the sidewalks of Bali, you will find these small offerings made by the local Hindus called Canang Sari. The offerings usually consist of food or rice put in such an elaborate manner, decorated with vibrant colored flowers and arranged ever so neatly in a decorative basket made out of palm leaves. They present these offerings three times a day.
When you see the hard work put into these offerings, you must be either heartless or a complete idiot to still step on them. They're usually accompanied by the strong scent of incense so they're pretty noticeable.
p.s: The evil spirit thing was just a joke 'cause we were just talking about the horror movie, Shutter :P Although what the professor said is still true.
