*Was a fan of halo series and at some point i had hired an artist to draw me a improved version of the stalwart. Credit going to mattplog for drawing it and kpmh20001 on fanficiton for recently making a better description than what i made for it. Also reuploaded for another purpose as well but took down previous post*
Designed in 2551, the Stalwart "Flight II" was an attempt to improve the survivability and firepower of Frigate Formations in combat with the Covenant. To achieve this, the ship would include marginally increased armor, dramatically improved maneuverability, and limited usage of the "honeycomb" structural supports that were designed by Doctor Robert McLees, made famous by such legendary ships as the Halcyon Class Light Cruiser.
Of all of the ship's innovations, the most radical was undoubtedly the ship's engines. Powered by a pair of Jules-Wallably S890 Fusion Drives, the exhaust of the drives was ran through a number of esoteric structures, meant to mimic the far more powerful engines of Covenant Warships. Although partially successful, the effort ultimately proved to be far more expensive than the moderate acceleration improvements could justify. As a result, certain ships of the class would be refitted with more conventional circular exhaust cones.
After the Mark II, Light Coil 56A2D4/MAC, proved to be a major power burden on the small frame of the Stalwart Class, a redesigned primary armament would be necessary for the Stalwart II. The new "Mark III" Heavy Coil 87J2D9/MAC was actually a miniaturized version of the considerably larger weapon of the same name, typically found aboard Marathon Class Cruisers. This weapon was selected and developed after the appalling casualties suffered by the Marathon Class during the later years of the war, and the subsequent availability of spare parts for the weapons. Although having a far more limited rate of fire than the Mark II, the Mark III MAC was capable of considerably higher energy output, and ensured the Stalwart II could punch well above it's weight in combat.
The ship's missile armaments' would remain largely unchanged from the original Stalwart Class, although two large missile silos would be added in the ship's rear engine assembly. These silos were capable of launching a number of heavy munitions, including Shiva, Hyperion, and Havoc Nuclear Missiles, as well as the antiquated Trebuchet Orbital Support Missile. These Silos carried no reloads, and were intended to be loaded with high-yield nuclear weapons, as to offer Captains more options when attempting to overload the shields of Covenant vessels.
The rushed development of the Flight II inevitably came at a cost to the design, and the most major effect of this was with the ship's point-defense armament. Unlike the original Stalwart's robust and heavy point-defense loadout, the Flight II possessed no standardization whatsoever. This led to the somewhat amusing situation of no Flight II Stalwart Class having the same point-defense loadout, with engineers and captains having to bargain for spare guns, which were then retrofitted onto the ship's hull, often with ad-hoc reloading mechanisms.
The first of the class to be completed was the UNSC Tehcumseh, named for a Native American Chief and Warrior who famously defied American Expansionism. It was the first to see action amongst it's class, participating in the end stages of the Battle of Meridian along with it's two sister ships, the UNSC Killmore and the UNSC Just One More.
Despite ferocious fighting on the part of the ship's inexperienced crews, Meridian would be glassed only two days after their arrival into the battle. However, the ships were able to distinguish themselves, destroying the Covenant SDV Class Heavy Corvette "Pious Undertaking" and it's escorting storm cutter. During the engagement, the UNSC Just One More was struck amidships by a plasma torpedo, detonating the vessel and destroying it completely, killing everyone aboard. The UNSC Killmore would also suffer minor damage, although with minimal casualties.
After the battle, more ships of the class would be deployed, with a total of sixteen ships of the class being built over the course of the war. Of these, four would be lost in battle prior to the Fall of Reach, and a further eight vessels would be lost during the major space battle on August Thirtieth, which saw the destruction of almost all UNSC assets in the Epsilon Eridanus Fleet, and a considerable portion of the UNSC Navy. Despite their awful losses, the ships were credited with destroying nearly thirty Covenant Warships, giving them one of the most favorable loss ratios in the entire Fleet.
All four of the remaining Stalwart IIs would be recalled to the Home Fleet, although only the UNSC Tehcumseh itself would take part in the Battle of Earth itself, as all of the other ships of the class were in drydock for extensive repairs suffered during the Fall of Reach. During the Battle, the Tehcumseh was assigned to the First Fleet alongside a number of older and obsolete vessels, most notably the now antiquated Vindication Class Light Battleship, which the Stalwart actually considerably outgunned.
The First Fleet was tasked with the defense of Luna and it's surrounding installations, and were engaged by numerous Covenant Battlegroups under the direct command of the Prophet of Truth. Outgunned and outnumbered, the First Fleet fought to the last man, and were able to ensure the evacuation of a portion of Luna's civilian population to safety, as well as the evacuation of multiple [REDACTED] belonging to the Office of Naval Intelligence. Despite this, the battlegroup was engaged by overwhelming Covenant Forces on November 17th in an attempt to prevent the breach of the Lunar Perimeter, and all ships attached were either destroyed or disabled.
The UNSC Tehcumseh itself was struck by over a dozen hits from Covenant Pulse Lasers, before the few surviving crew elected to abandon ship. On December Fourth, following the ceasefire marking the end of the Human Covenant War, a search for Survivors around Luna revealed that the UNSC Tehcumseh was still largely intact, althoug beyond the point of repair. It was towed to a salvage yard in orbit around Mars, and it's carcass was used to repair it's three remaining sister ships.
The Postwar status of the remaining Stalwart Flight II frigates is very unusual. With so few of the class surviving the war, replacement vessels were considered for construction, but this effort was quickly abandoned as the UNSC found itself struggling for every credit. The destruction of the majority of the ship's spare parts during the Fall of Reach meant that maintenance quickly became nearly impossible due to the many sophisticated and unique systems carried by the ships, although the salvage of the Tehcumseh did somewhat alleviate this issue.
Two years after the end of the Human Covenant War, funding was finally granted for the modernization of the three remaining Stalwart IIs. These refits would leave them with new sensors, modern point-defense weapons, update many of the ship's internal systems with contemporary equivalents (radically improving the spare parts situation), and the installation of Energy Shields
Today, the ships remain a coveted posting for any Frigate Captain in the UNSC Navy, not just because of the rare and comfortable nature of the vessels, but because of the unique blend of firepower and mobility that they offer.
