Happy to draw my characters again! It was so relaxing to colour and paint the background. This is my border collie sparkle dog, Ace, playing Olympic beach volleyball for Team Canada. I honestly didn't watch beach volleyball this year (I did watch some other sports that I really enjoyed) but thought it felt right to draw this character playing this sport. We didn't even have a proper men's beach volleyball team this year (WHAT?! We always have one...) so I took the uniform that they were supposed to wear and put it on my character. I always draw this character for the Olympics and Canada came away with 24 medals which I believe is the second highest medal count we've ever had.
Did any of you watch the Olympics?

From the winter snowboarding to the summer beachball, Ace is definitely feeling the heat!
I watched some of it and it was definitely exciting! Just watching the Olympians perform at their peak and compete is so stressful to watch at times ;-; Skateboarding was one of my more curious parts of the show, as I've never seen skateboarding perform at such a professional international level!

I guess in another ~6 months I'll be drawing another picture of Ace for the winter Olympics. It's so crazy that it's coming up so quickly!
Skateboarding was fun! I heard it was new to the Olympics this year. I only saw the women's so far (I'll try to find time to watch the men's) but the Japanese were just tearing it up. Who knew they were so into skateboarding? I did consider drawing Ace skateboarding this year but I feel like that would have been too easy. Hahaha.
And I agree - when you see people who have trained so hard for four years and then something unfortunate happens like they fall on the race course or they get an unexpected injury, it's just devastating.
I was also really excited to watch rock climbing (another new one this year, and surprisingly highly entertaining for me), Judo, and lots of rowing events. I can't wait to watch those ones again in a few years. For the Winter Olympics, I basically watch EVERYTHING. Lmaooo

I'm not sure what new sports they might bring out for the Winter Olympics - I haven't really looked into it. I'm sure I'll be inspired to make something once I start watching some of the scheduled activities. ^^
It's true that there were some really unfortunate moments for people (as there always is in competitive events), but also at the same time, I think there was so much heart when other competitors would stop and help up the person who had fallen, or that moment when the two guys from high jump shared the gold medal was sooo heartwarming. ;__;

YAY! Really cool!
(hopefully future olympics will capture only the positive things and not that what happend with the ********** german girl and her trainer at the modern pentathlon -_-, sorry but that event and what happened there still pisses me off, because this is not the first time a german trainer did something like this)

Thank you for the compliment!
What happened exactly? I didn't really follow pentathalon other than watching our Canadian get gold in the event (too many events to follow to see all the details that happened). There were some really positive things that did happen at the Olympics, like the two guys who shared the gold for high jump, or athletes helping each other up when they'd fallen down on the race course. :0

Ohhh nooo. TT___TT That's so weird that they have to ride horses that they are not comfortable with and only have 20mins to bond with the horse! I know the horses are trained for these sorts of things and should be used to different riders, but sometimes you just get them on a day they don't wanna go. Eughhh... it's a really messy situation and I can only imagine that it would damage the reputation of the sport when stuff like this happens. Sorry you had to experience watching that. Hopefully it will be better next time around. D:
(Ah, I realize I mixed this event up with decathalon from my previous comment. I didn't watch this particular event at all so I had no idea.)

Well Raisner and Schleu have been reported by the German Animalsafety Union at the police now for animal abuse. Although I doubt they'll have success, as our law states you can only get fined/sentenced if you overly abused an animal so that it suffers intensely for a longer time.
The problem here was that the horse itself WAS already scared/freightened in another event before and therefore should have been taken out of contest in first place. Forcing it even more isn't helpful at all, above all with violence.
Also they should overthink the idea of flying horses on plane thousands of miles away for just an event - I know there's a lot of money involved, but if we also want to reduce emissions these would be a few plane rides less necessary as well.

I feel like if athletes who continue to show poor sportsmanship like that and display poor choice of judgement shouldn't be allowed to participate in future events. Just straight up banned. Otherwise, they might not learn their lesson. :/
Ahh, I see, I see. Was this event one of the ones you were looking forward to the most? And yeah, a scared horse really shouldn't have been allowed to race and a spare one be given the opportunity to go in its stead. Maybe this whole situation could have been avoided if they'd done something like that. >w<
I mean, to be fair, we also fly people all around the world to come to the event so there will always be flights going to/from events like this. Japan, especially, has very little land and maybe not too many (if any) horses trained for these specific events, so they need to bring them in from elsewhere.

yea but humans are more advanced in thinking and can cope a travel even better than a horse. If you have ever watched this docu "Flight logistics" where they kinda need to force the horses on the planes just to bring them to the event, but the horses are uncomfortable with that.... dunno if that is such a good idea.
And the pentathlon wasn't necessary something I would have liked watching, but it got quite some attention because of the happenings afterwards here in Germany.
I was more interested in bike racing and such... where as well one of the coaches got banned because he used swear words towards riders who were in front of one of our runners. He shouted "go get the camel drivers!" - the two riders in front were from arabic/african countries.....
