Here’s one of my main characters I’ve finally got around to posting. A somewhat angsty hotshot teen pilot, regardless of which version he is. This one is part of a sort of dieselpunk-WWII inspired setting.
Grez was conscripted into the Imperial military, specifically the Imperial Air Corps in order to train as a pilot. He proved to be decent enough, certainly better than most of the other draftees of his age. He was assigned to an fighter squadron on the Imperium-Glaacc border, to conduct patrols, occasional raids, interception missions etc. His aircraft of choice (well assignment) was an Fw-190, which he removed much of the paint from to lighten the weight. Though the plane’s most noticeable feature would be the sharkmouth which he painted onto the nose.
Prior to being dragged into the military, he was something of a street punk. Making a small living through petty theft, conart etc. Though he was more or less straightened out once joining up. And arguably has a better life.
Despite conscripts getting younger and younger in the Imperium, their situation would still be less dire than their enemies’. As for all intents and purposes they still hold the advantage. At least against Glaacc. A full scale invasion of the Ebrian Empire is still an undertaking the Imperium is hesitant about, due to the logistical nightmare that would inevitably unfold...
His physical design (and much of the Sukeutese for that matter) is based directly on the lizardmen/dragonewts from the anime That time I got Reincarnated as a Slime. A show which I’ve had a decent soft spot for after watching it and it’s spinoff (still waiting for the season 2 part 2 dub tho). So yeah, if the similarities are completely intentional. Will probably post his sci-fi counterpart at some point.
And for like those that may notice it, his sleeve patch/squadron emblem is a heavy handed reference to Gundam. Being the insignia of the Crossbone Vanguard from F91/Crossbone Gundam (still need to read that manga). Just felt like it looked fitting.
