This pic reminded me about old historical book about WW2 I found in library. In final chapters it says that along with double pressing of Allied armies, in 1945 Germans also had the inner front - foreign slaves on plantations felt sooner liberation and killed guards to escape. American tanks could not pass on the roads because of the huge crowds of German soldiers and officers who were in a hurry to surrender. Kneeling and with tears they begged Americans to close them into POW camps because they were madly scared of Russian vengeance for the genocidal mission of Wehrmacht on the East. Meny Wehrmacht men burned their uniform and told they are Czechs or Dutchs. Also American military commanders didn't put their Polish and Jewish soldiers to guard German POWs, to prevent chaos
Although, in Red Army served Germans too, and they could demonstrate their coutryfellows that USSR wont commit racist discrimination against German people (so its really was demonstrated after, East Germany came to communist block as equal part and German soldiers served in Warshaw pact armies equally along with their former enemies - Poles and Russians, without any sort dividing of soldiers by ethnic factor)
