~~~~~…..Continuing from the “Surf’s Up!” short story as Jack, Tidus, Kanoa, and Terry continued the day forward…..~~~~~
~
*Whoooooooshhhhhhh*
“Yeeaaaahhhhhhh!!!!”
Screamed Jack. The Buizel was riding on his knees on the front of Terry’s surfboard going through a wave tube while Terry the Crocanaw was enjoying the ride of the surf as he was standing behind Jack keeping the balance even with his and the Buizel’s weight to prevent them both from tipping over and falling into the ocean right below them. The wave that Jack and Terry were riding on was a fairly big wave that the duo were both in the entrance of the tube keeping enough speed and distance to not crash into the tube that was behind them.
“Haha, you’re doing great, little buddy!” Screamed Terry through the roar of the wave to Jack.
“This is SO MUCH FUN! Hahaha!” Jack screamed back, laughing.
“Oh yeah, let’s try this once more, YOU READY?!”
“WHAT…ER, Y-Y-YEAH!!”
And just hearing that screaming acknowledgment, Terry prepped himself as leaned forward gaining more speed moving away from the entrance of the wave tube, as Jack knelt a bit further and got ready for the move the duo was going to do. The surfboard pressed into the ocean as more splashes from side to side.
*Whoooooosh!*
"Alright, let's do this..."
With the speed Jack and Terry were making, the surfboard started to descend closer to the floor of the ocean. Just when what appeared to look like they were going to crash into the ocean, both Terry and Jack moved both their bodies to the left.
**FWOOOShHHhHhhhhH!!**
“YeeeeaaaahHAHAHAHA!”
“WOOOOOOOOOOOOAHHHHHH!!!”
There was enough power and speed for Terry to rise his surfboard upwards towards the top of the outer current of the wave. The two Pokémon rocketed upwards quite a bit above the wave and started screaming happily as the two lost their footing form the surfboard while airborne.
*FWooooooOOoooOo*
Meanwhile, the wave had already passed them below.
*FWoooooo~*
However, from rocketing upward reduced slower to becoming full a stop the two Pokémon in the air was slowly starting to fall with planet’s gravity finally beginning to kick in. Jack and Terry saw Terry’s Blue Hawaiian Flower style surfboard beneath their pawed feet flew back down faster to the ocean before them, as the Surfboard plummeted with a giant
*SPLOIiIISH!*
The sound of the Surfboard went with a loud flat splash that could be heard from both of the Pokémon as they stared.
"..."
Without hesitation, Terry and Jack looked back at each other, and Terry smiled at the Buizel.
“Now, Jack!”
“Okay!”
*Fwooosh!*
The two Pokémon were not far from each other when they launched, and they began stretch out their paws towards each other.
*Catch!*
They had successfully brought their paws together, and started to descend spinning in a circle like actual sky divers would when they would sky dive, and was enjoying the moment spinning while laughing happily down to the ocean below.
"YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!”
“WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”
Both of the Pokémon had screamed happily out of the free fall. For Jack, it was really thrilling falling into the ocean, and he had felt great happiness with Terry being there for him right by his side.
*Fwoooooo*
“Just like we practiced...!” screamed Terry to Jack.
“R-r-right!” Jack cried back.
Just when the duo were getting closer to the ocean water, they let go of their held paws, and started to both perform a diving position. The two pokemon angled their dive with both their paws forward, and Jack closed his eyes.
*Sploo~*
"...."
**SPLOOOOSH!!**
“Gah! *pant* *pant*”
“BLUH!”
Both of the Pokémon dived into the Dark Blue Ocean Water, and began to resurface with both gasping for air as the duo looked at each other and laughed and cheered.
“Awesome, we did it, haha!”
“That was great, little buddy! We sure did!”
*Splash! Splash!*
The surfboard was not far away from them, and both the Croconaw and Buizel swam to the floating blue plank and get on easily with Terry going on first, followed by Jack with a little help from Terry himself. After getting on secured on the board with Jack in front and Terry behind him, Terry gave a soft pat on the right side of Jack’s shoulder and said,
“Boy, that was great, little buddy, and you did that on your third try too! I’m impressed!”
Blushing a bit, Jack looked back and smiled happily. “Yeah!…That…that hurt..the first time hurt too…”
Terry’s smile then faded a little.
“Oh….er…”
~~~~~…..2 hours ago before on the first try…..~~~~~
*FWWWOOOOOOOSHHHH!!!*
“OK LITTLE BUDDY, HERE WE GO!”
“WOOOOOOAHHHHHH!!”
The two Pokémon went flying above the wave, and Jack had panicked and jumped off the board a little too early.
“WAAAHHHH!!”
*FWOOOOOOO—-*
“JACK! NOOOOO! TOO EARLYYYY!!”
“AAAAAAAAAA—“
*SPLATCH!*
“JACK?! ARE YOU OK?!”
“...”
*Fwwoooo—*
*Splash!*
“BLUH! JACK?! JACK?! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?! SPEAK TO ME BUDDY!”
*Flip!*
“...Puh…”
Terry used his weight and dived fast back into the Ocean to be next to Jack. From the height that Jack had landed from, he went with his front body first into the ocean water with his front side of his body like landing on concrete. The noise of the sound even from above in the air had made Terry cringe really hard from hearing it making him react to get to Jack quickly.
“…Owwwwww…”
“…*Phew*…”
~~~~~…Back to the present…~~~~~
Both Pokémon cringed at each other.
“W-well, you did it this time, so practice makes perfect, y-yeah?”
“…Um…yup…”
“Hm...”
Terry looked up towards the sky. Some clouds were around here and there, but other than that, the weather was beautiful as always. He then saw the distance of the sun, and it from where it was, Terry could tell what time it was. From the suns distance, it was getting into the late afternoon. Terry then smiled.
“Heh…good…let’s uh…head back to the hut, then? It’s getting a bit late, I think that’s enough surfing and whatnot out here, yeah?”
“Oh….ok, yeah! But…why?”
*Pat!*
“Gotta prepare to make dinner! I wanna make something good for you. By the way, you were amazing for your first time…it’s like you were a natural out there!”
Jack felt his cheeks get a bit red.
“Oh, er…”
“This is when you say, “Thanks”, Jack.” Terry smiled with a smirk.
“Oh..er, thanks, Terry! Thanks for the dinner too, it all sounds great!” Jack said with a big smile.
“...Heh...”
“…What a kid…”
*Pat!*
*Swish!*
*Splash!*
Terry nodded with a smile and patted Jack’s shoulder once more and slid backwards on his surfboard putting his body into the ocean water and placed his crocodile hands onto the end of the board and proceeded kicking with his feet towards the shore as Jack sat in the middle enjoying the ride. Jack’s body was aching from the surfing, so he was glad he didn’t have to swim his way back.
“…”
“…”
*…..Splash, splash, splash, splash..…*
Jack had looked ahead of them from the small distance that they were from was a straw/wooden hut like home on the beach. The hut had a special kind of straw style on for the roof with a brick chimney. The surrounding base was wooden and had windows that faced the ocean and on the sides as well as a door entrance that had flat wooden pieces on the ground as a floor base. The house itself was fairly big for it being on the beach. Next to the house, was surrounded by Palm Trees with smaller details that Jack looked at. He saw a fire pit with fire that was currently being used as the fire flamed on. Surrounding the fire pit were 4 wooden half like seats that on the left and right had legs. Beyond the area, there was the wilds of palm trees and bushes that surround the land beyond the beach.
“Hard to see beyond that land though…” Jack thought. “I wonder what else is that surrounds the place…hm…”
*SPLASH!*
“W-whoa!” Jack cringed onto the board as his thoughts were broken by the sudden movement.
“Woah, hang on, small wave bump…” Terry said keeping the board steady.
“!”
Terry tensed for a second.
~~~~~…..?????…..~~~~~
“HEY! JUST HOLD ON JUST A BIT LONGER! YOU CAN DO THIS!”
“I can’t…can’t hold on...much longer…”
"You need to live...!"
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
*GRIP*
Terry tensed during the small wave on the board even harder so Jack wouldn’t fall over off of reflexes. Once the bump of the wave subsided he sighed, then asked Jack,
“You…you all good...buddy?”
“Y-yeah, thanks!” Jack said as he looked back with a small smile as he returned to face and look towards the beach.
“...Good...to hear...”
Terry nodded in return and continued kicking. However, the kicks were a little bit slower. He saw his left arm. It had a scar that ran down from his shoulder to almost near his wrists. He shuddered as he then glanced at his right arm. The right arm had the tattoo on there with the red symbol swirl that looked like a hurricane symbol, but with curved indents.
"I can't believe...that I'm still alive..."
~~~~~…..?????…..~~~~~
“And with this...this is a mark of you being alive.”
“...I...”
“Make this as a thing where you once left your past, and are now moving on towards your next chapter…”
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
*GRIP*
Terry’s body was shaking slightly as he continued to grip harder. He hadn't even noticed that with his intense grip, he could have possibly indented his surfboard if he gripped any tighter.
*Splash, Splash, Splash…*
“Hmm...” Jack then looked back at the beach with the house. He saw a familiar Pokémon laying above the sand in a hammock with his back side showing towards Jack. The Buizel couldn’t help but smile at the Charizard as he saw him sleeping peacefully.
“Tidus…” Jack thought with a smile sensing a form of security in his heart. He couldn’t describe the feeling, but whenever he saw Tidus, he felt warmth and security.
A sudden thought had crossed Jack’s mind just now.
“Oh yeah, hey, um, Terry?”
“Hm? What’s up, kiddo?” Terry slowed his kicking a little more looking up at Jack as the Buizel turned a 180 and sat facing Terry. From looking, Jack had no idea that Terry was shaking at all.
“I was curious…if it’s okay with you, how...did you meet Tidus and Kanoa…?”
Terry blinked at Jack and looked from the shore then looked back at Jack and smiled.
“W-well, you seem quite curious, so sure, I can tell you a short version since we aren’t that far…”
“Yay! Thanks, Terry!” Jack replied back happily.
“Heh…what a cute kid…”
“No probs…so it’s like this…”
~~~~~…..Meanwhile at the hut on the beach a couple of minutes ago…..~~~~~
“Hoo, that’s the last of ‘em…” Kanoa said.
*Drop!*
*Plunk!*
“This should help out Kai out for dinner prep…got my workout for the day…heh…”
The Alolan Raichu had dropped some packed boxes inside of the hut of what seemed like the kitchen. Using his right paw, he wiped the top of his forehead from some sweat that had formed. Halfway through the wiping on his paw, he felt the ridge in his middle of his head and froze.
“…Guh...No...not...not now...”
~~~~~…..???…..~~~~~
“And you thought you would be able to help the others, didn’t you?”
“But…I know I could have--”
“As if you would have been able to save anyone, anyway…”
“….”
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
*WHAM*
*Pant….Pant*
“Ugh…painful memories of this scar…what did I do to do deserve this…why does this keep happening...?”
Shaking his head, Kanoa finished wiping his head from that rigid scar he mentioned, and looked through the kitchen window. He saw from the distance in the ocean he saw two figures surfing along on a board. Kanoa calmed down after a few more breath’s, and smiled.
“Glad to know Kai has someone to surf with other than me for a change…hope that little brudda is holding himself out there…and that Kai won’t be torturin’ him…” Kanoa shook his head in disapproval.
“ZZnrk…”
“Huh…?”
Hearing the noise coming from outside, Kanoa went out to investigate. Stepping out in the hut, he was welcomed with the little area he was in, and looked around for the noise.
“ZzzzZzzz….”
He then followed and looked at the source of the sound. It was Tidus, as he was on the hammock with a big smile on his face with his eyes closed happily sleeping away. Kanoa couldn’t help but smile at the big fire lizard.
“Heh…just the same like always. Guess his flying tuckered him out a bit…not easy getting here after all…”
He then looked out towards the land.
“This is an island no one entirely knows about, anyway…”
~~~~~…..2 hours ago…..~~~~~
“Do you really think I can do this, Kanoa?”
Tidus had shifted his feet uneasily in the sand as he watched Jack and Terry out in the ocean enjoying the waves coming through. Kanoa was silent staring also with Tidus at Jack and Terry.
“Well, with patience and timing, I’m sure you can help him out with the problems he’s going through. Don’t forget that taking care of someone is tough. But I’m definitely sure you can overcome them.”
“I…I don’t know…” Tidus said depressingly.
Kanoa turned his full attention to Tidus, and Tidus caught on and looked down at Kanoa.
Kanoa nodded a firm nod.
“You are something really special after all, brudda. You have to take care of yourself first before you can help Jack out. So, don’t give up on Jack, and he won’t give up on you…after all…he looks up to you in a way."
Tidus’s eyes lit up from that statement and turned red from embarrassment.
“I…I…”
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
“Glad I could help you out and make you at least feel a little better judging from your smile you got going on there, heh.” Kanoa thought, and smiled at Tidus.
“Rest easy for now, Brudda. You’ll need it…”
“Heeeeeyyyyyy Kanoaaaa!”
Came a cry. It was Jack’s voice.
“Hm?"
Looking towards the ocean, and spotting Terry and Jack, he waved towards the two, and ran towards the water.
“Hey there guys, how’d the waves go?” Kanoa said with a smile showing his teeth.
“It was great!” Jack said happily, then his smile shrank, "Until I crashed, but learned how to dive better!" His smile then grew up again.
“Hah, good to hear, little bruddah! You’re gonna have to tell me all about it!”
“Hehe! Of course!”
Giggling, Jack then hopped off from the surfboard as it reached to shore, and walked by to Kanoa, and turned back to watch Terry rise from the shore in lifted his surfboard onto his side and shook off the water from his body.
*SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE!*
“Oh yeah, you should do that too, Jack.” Kanoa added looking at the Buizel.
“Oh…er…”
*Shake…Shake...*
As Terry finished shaking, Jack tried to shake from his wet fur. He had little success though as Kanoa and Terry sweat-dropped at his attempt.
“Well, you got most of it…we can go dry by the fire pit, then?” Kanoa suggested.
“Erm…okay...” Jack admitted half embarrassed. Kanoa went and looked to Terry.
“Oh yeah, Kai, I brought in food for dinner for you to prepare. Think you can handle it all on your own like we attempted before?”
Terry that was just called Kai, and nodded in approval with a smile.
“Why is he called that…? Why not just…Terry?” Jack thought.
“Sure thing, just leave it to me for tonight!” Terry said happily breaking Jack’s thoughts.
“Can’t wait to see what you got!” Kanoa said with a smile showing his teeth. Terry nodded, and trotted towards back the hut and headed inside.
Kanoa then turned to Jack with a smile. “Wanna head towards the fire pit and tell me all about those surf experiences for your first time, bruddah?”
Jack smiled. “Yes, please, I would like that!”
“Alright then! Oh yeah, but be careful, Tidus is sleeping so we can talk normally, but not loud, yeah?”
“Oh…okay!”
~~~~~…..After getting towards the fire pit, and explaining the first two times of the surfing experiences Jack encountered…..~~~~~
*Crackle!*
The fire crackled between the two Pokémon as they sat opposite sides from each other, and enjoyed the warmth of the fire. The sun was nearing down just slightly above the ocean water as the sky was in a orangish style setting on the horizon.
“…And then, there was this weird Star at the bottom of the sand that waved at me from when I fell back into the water! I didn’t know what to do though, but I waved back!” Jack said with a big smile on his face.
Kanoa couldn’t help but laugh out loud from this tale that Jack had told. It was a belly laugh as he enjoyed hearing from Jack’s experiences in his words.
“Hahahaha, that’s really great little bruddah! That would be a Staryu you found, then. Think that was Jerry who popped by.”
Jack then turned his head sideways curious like how a growlithe would be confused.
“So...that’s a Staryu named Jerry?”
“Yup! Nice fellow who says hi to us every now and then giving us word of what's happening in the ocean sometimes.”
“Huh…”
Jack pondered for a second looking towards the ocean in bewilderment.
Kanoa couldn’t help but smile at the Buizel. “Try not to think too hard on it, bruddah.” I know a few that Kai knows that are friends with him. If you want, I could ask him when he’s free after from cooking, then.”
"That sounds good..." Jack still had a pondering thought about him.
“Hmm...Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, Jack, welcome to Sunset Beach! I’m sure you can tell why it’s called that...” Kanoa trailed off that end of speaking and used his right paw to point at the sun as it was setting down even further into the ocean to distract Jack from thinking too hard.
“O-oh, thank you, that name actually sounds great…” Jack thought in pondering still lost.
Noticing this, Kanoa then asked,
“Oh…was there something else on your mind, Jack?”
“Oh, er…actually yeah….I...was wondering if um…”
“Hmmm?”
“I was wondering why you called Terry Ka——-“
*FWWWIIISHHHHHHH*
*SKOWWWW!!!*
“WHAT THE—-“
“W-WOAH!”
*FLOFF!!*
“OOF!!
Ow, ow, ow, ow…what happened…?"
*Plop!*
In a sudden blur, an object flew towards Tidus as it whizzed just inches above him, and the noise that flew by Tidus woke him up in an erratic stupor and with his sudden movements, Tidus fell off from the hammock and fell down into the sand, hard. Tidus’s sunglasses that he had on the top of his head flew a couple of feet towards Jack. Still scared but shaking it off quickly, Jack noticed Tidus’s sunglasses, and broke out of his fear to get off of his seat and pick them up. Jack could have sworn that something flew by.
“Uh...Kanoa—“
*FWOOOSH*
“RAAAAGH! WHO DID THAT?!” Tidus screamed in frustration now wide awake, as he looked around and got up form the sand with sand all over on his front side. Jack froze from Tidus’s roar of frustration and looked at him as the Flame-lit tail rose in a pitch quickly.
“Woah woah, Tidus, calm down, it’s ok, it wasn’t us, I promise you!” Kanoa pleaded out towards Tidus as he too got up from his seat and ran towards the Charizard to calm him down by ushering his paws up in defense to get attention. Tidus did notice, and looked down at Kanoa and then looked towards Jack who looked scared at seeing him like that, but Jack kept a stern face.
“Please Tidus, d-don’t be mad…” Jack squeaked out in fear and panic.
“I…”
Tidus’s rage quickly subsided, and his flame on his tail went back down to its lowered state.
He hated seeing Jack be nervous or scared of him.
“I can’t let him see me like that…”
“I’m sorry, kid...and Kanoa…I just—”
“Yo, is everything okay out here?! *pant*” Came a cry by the hut of the front door. It was Terry, and he was panting a bit.
“Yeah, Terry, sorry about that!” Tidus said towards the Croconaw dismissing with a waving clawed hand.
“It was just a stumble! We’re good!”
“Ah, alright…well, dinner is almost getting ready to eat soon anyway!” Terry then quickly retreated back into the hut house to prep the final parts of dinner.
“Phew…”
Everyone was now collecting a sigh of a relief for a second and then,
“Aw, Tea and Biscuits, my aim of the hammock drifted off because of the wind…I wanted to hit the rope, so the big Lizard could tumble down even better, but even then, my result seemed far more funnier than I expected, heh…”
“!”
*FWOOOSH*
*Grrr!*
Tidus’s flame lit tail pitched once more as he growled showing his teeth.
“That voice…!”
Everyone hearing this new voice that sounded British and male, turned towards the Jungle part of the Rainforest. Above on one of the palm trees, stood a figure that had presented himself in the broad sunlit light.
“Hm, hm…”
*Fwoosh!*
It was a bird like Pokémon that had appeared to be owlish like creature wearing a green like feathered hood around it’s head. On top of the green feathered head stationed a brownish white feather with a green tail. There was also marked a red “X” just below the base of the neck where strings that looked like was made for hoodies dangled about.There was also a green feathered tail as well. The creature also Had brown wings that at the end of his tips he used as hands were white tipped had and had wasted no time with by standing where he was. He was also very muscular with the ab pack on his front side of the body that was all creamy white all the way down to his talon’d feet that were bird clawed with black claws. His face had a black beak and on the outside of his eyes and face circled a red color, with his chin being creamy white as well.
*Fwooo*
With a quick fast motion, he flapped his wings and flew towards the group of the area.
“Woah…” Jack thought, “Who is this…?”
*Plop!*
“You got a lotta nerve doing that!” Tidus said in frustration wanting to really use his fire attacks on this bird.
“Now, Tidus, c’mon, you gotta be the better ‘mon here…” Kanoa said calmly.
Not having any time to think through further, the Bird Pokémon paid no mind to Kanoa or Jack as he landed by them and away from Tidus like how Jack has been facing Kanoa from earlier from across the fire pit.
“Come now, Tidus, just having a bit of fun is all. I used one of my arrows to just startle you.” The Pokémon said with a small smile.
The flame on Tidus’s tail slowly was diminishing to lower once more.
“Whatever, Quince. If you do that again next time, I won’t hesitate to burn ya…” Tidus said in a huff as he began to dust off the sand he was covered in from the fall from earlier.
*Wipe!*
“So, that’s his name…” Jack thought curiously.
“*Sigh* C’mon Tidus…” Kanoa said dryly shaking his head.
“…”
Jack couldn’t help but notice his grumbling either, and walked towards Tidus still holding the Sunglasses that he normally wears. Jack then held the sunglasses in one paw and lifted it upwards towards the Charizard. Tidus noticed this greatly as Quince and Kanoa watched in silence. Gingerly taking the Sunglasses, Tidus placed it on top of his head where it was usually stationed when he wasn’t in need of using them except when he was flying, or used it for the sun, or just wanted to wear it because he felt like it. Tidus then smiled down at the Buizel and used his right clawed hand hand ruffled Jack’s head lightly.
“Heh, thanks for getting and protecting my sunglass safely, kid.” He said with a genuine smile and a wink.
Jack couldn’t help but smile at that letting the rage from what happened earlier melt away. He knew that Tidus was just upset from waking up, and realized that he could be too if woken up like that in defense.
“You’re welcome!” Came the Buizel’s reply.
“Hm…Anyway, what did you want, Quince?” Kanoa asked the Owlish like bird. “It’s not often we see you down here from the mountain area…”
The Owlish Bird Pokémon then looked at Kanoa with a smile. “Oh, I just happen to be my rounds of exercise of flying when I spotted you lot along with…” he then paused and looked at Jack once more.
“This little fellow here…”
“…”
Jack didn’t know what to say and kept silent and turned to look at Quince until he got the courage to say while he stood next to Tidus, “H-hello…m-my names Jack…” Jack said shakily looking at the bird, then looking away. Jack had felt strange weird vibes with him for some reason.
“Ah, pleasure to meet you, lad.” Quince said calmly with a wave.
Jack noticed this, and waved back silently.
“This kid needs to stop being so cute…it hurts…” Tidus thought from the awkward silence. He let go of the feelings for now.
“So, is that all then?” Tidus said shaking off his thought, and focused on the task at hand which was to make small talk.
"You here to have some fun and just flap away back to your nest?"
"Tidus!" Kanoa hissed silently.
"Er, well, no, but--" Quince began.
“No? Ah, well, great seeing you once again, Quince, take care!” Tidus said half sarcastically, and then turned around to proceed to get back on the hammock he was once sleeping on.
“Actually on the contrary, I came to challenge you, Sir Tidus.”
“Oh, what, is that challenge consist of being all formal now to me, SIR Quince?” Came back a mocking british half attempted tone as Tidus was about to jump into the hammock with a flamed snort.
“Tidus!” Came Kanoa’s outcry. “Be nice!”
“Feh….” Came back the Charizards reply.
Meanwhile, Jack just looked back and forth from the conversation in silence.
"Why do they not like each other...?" Jack thought.
Ignoring the mock however, Quince smirked. “Yes, with a flying challenge.”
"..."
Tidus paused and froze as he lifted his left foot to jump into the hammock and brought it back down, and turned around to face Quince and folded his arms across his muscled chest with a playful smirk showing his teeth in a friendly banter.
“Oh? A flying challenge, again, huh?”
“Indeed.” Quince nodded sternly. “You see, it has been quite sometime that we have had one, and I would like to challenge you again, perchance, if that is alright with you.”
Jack looked at Tidus as did Kanoa in response to the smirking Tidus.
“Gee, I dunno, you woke me up with a arrow earlier…”
“All in good fun, I promise.” Quince reassured Tidus in a tone that sounded really convincing.
“Hm…alright, why not? It HAS been a while, and I could use the flying to stretch my wings anyway.
"Hmph, you’re on, Owl!” Tidus said with a rival smile.
"I'm called a Decidueye..." Quince couldn’t help but smile at this. “Excellent. Thank you, Sir Ti—“
“Enough with the ‘sir’ formal stuff, we’re friends, got it?” Came back Tidus’s stern reply.
“Ah. My apologies. Very good, then.”
Kanoa smiled and shook his head. “Alright, if you guys want a challenge, then let’s get this underway, ‘cause that sun is starting to set pretty soon…” He then looked at the distance as the sun started to slowly sink lower.
“You guys know the rules, one loop by edges of the cove, and crossing the finish line between the two palm trees of the hammock.”
“Right!” both said to Kanoa.
Tidus then started stretching as did Quince.
“*Grunt!*”
“Hah…”
As the two were stretching their bodies to get warmed up, Jack was left all confused and huddled over to Kanoa.
“Kanoa, is this a race?” Jack asked while lost. Kanoa couldn’t help but smile at Jack and nodded. “Yeah, little bruddah. There’s a slight history between these two. I can’t really explain it much, but if you can get Quince to explain it to you, I’m sure he would be open to knowing letting you know. Although, not now though, as these two are prepping.”
“Oh…okay…” Jack said silently.
“I wonder what Quince’s life is like…?” Jack thought.
“Oh yeah, Kanoa, there was something else I wanted to ask you…”
“Hm…?”
~
~~~~~…..A few minutes later of warming up and taking down the hammock…..~~~~~
“Alright, are you two ready?” Kanoa asked standing by the hut next to Jack.
“Yea!”
"Yes..."
Both Tidus and Quince said in unison. Tidus and Quince then prepped their marks next to the two palm trees and took into a ready running stance. The two Pokémon were distanced a few feet apart to make sure they would both get a running start and provide enough coverage to get them going through the times they need to be.
“Ok…
...ready...
GO!”
*Stomp, Stomp, Stomp, Stomp, Stomp!*
*Fwooosh!*
“HEY! WAIT! WHAT ABOUT DINNER?!” Came a cry from the hut.
“He has the worst timing when things happen, I swear…” Tidus thought disapprovingly, but ignored Terry’s outcry.
“…”
*Flap, flap, flap, flap…*
“Dear Lady Diane,
How are you doing these days? I hope that things are going well for you, and with everyone back home. I do often miss the fantastic cooking that some of the mon’s have made each day, and I always do think of your beautiful face whenever I do get the chance to see the sunrise.”
*Woooooosh!*
After getting a running start, both of the Pokémon flew off into the sky with their wings just before they had reached the ocean water, and started to fly towards the right side of the edge of the islands rock formations.
“…”
Both Pokémon stayed silent as the first loop was coming up.
*FWOOOOOOOOSH*
“Blast it…” Quince said quietly.
Both Pokémon then did a loop de loop, but not at once. Tidus moved a lot faster as Quince had a little bit of a struggle in his loop, but managed to do so, and followed pursuit right behind Tidus. Both then proceeded to move towards the left side of the rocky terrain. Each Pokémon were making their way towards getting ready for the second loop.
“I do miss home often at times, but I have been enjoying the time away from the lands, and have managed to make some very interesting friends from the time I have left. Kanoa and Terry (Kai) and Tidus have been very interesting Pokémon to partake in with conversations here on this island.
I do wish you can see it one day.
I really do.
It’s one of the most beautiful islands I have been on since living here.”
*FWOO—*
“RRRGGGHH!!!” came a disgruntled Tidus that brought Quince back to the moment at hand.
*FWOOSH*
Quince was ready for the next loop, and managed to out maneuver Tidus in the speed he was going forth on with the loop.
"No! I'm losing speed...!" Tidus screamed silently.
“There are times I have left this island and started to pursue other distant area’s that are not home. The journey for it is long of course, but some of the things and places I have been to and tried, they are way much more different than they are from home. If there is such a time where I have not been excited to try something new, it was never a dull moment, that I can assure you.”
*SSSSSHHHH!!!*
Completing the loop, he then proceeded and flapped to head back towards the middle of the two areas where the sun was setting and then turned around back towards the beach of the island until
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
“RIGHT BEHIND YOU, QUINCY!”
“!”
*FWUUSHH*
The startled Decidueye who was shocked to see Tidus watched as Tidus managed to catch up and now both Pokémon were neck and neck racing to get to the two Palm trees to claim as victor.

“RGGGGHHH!!!!”
“HEEEYYYAAAAAAAA!!!!”
“But I do have to say, out of everything that I did experience so far from this world that we live in, it’s that there are a lot of good Pokémon out there looking for excitement, make new opportunities of themselves, and provide more than just a friendly gesture than I have ever thought to realize that I am not truly alone in this world. If I can think of anything, it would be that it would be something more of a dream come true to experience. In ways, I can’t believe that I wanted to say that I am much more happier doing this now than I was back home miserable. I do miss you and everyone at home each day and want to return at some point.”
“I’m gonna win this time, Tidus!”
“Bring it, Quince!”
Both Pokémon exchanged growling smiles as they looked at each other and proceeded to get closer and closer to the Palm Trees.
**FWEEEEEEESSSHHHHHH**
“Oh man, here they come, Jack! This is gonna be close!” Kanoa screamed, as he held onto Jack’s shoulders with excitement.
“GO TIDUS AND QUINCE!! WOOOO!!” Jack cheered both Pokémon on in good spirits nearing the end of the race.
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
“But, I do have to say this though, Lady Diane….”
*FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*
Quince poured more of his speed and gave it all he had near the Palm trees and reached passing through the goal just slightly ahead of Tidus just inches to the finish line.
"QUINCE WIIIIIIIINNNNNNSSSSSSS!!!" Screamed Kanoa.
“…I’m having the time of my life.
Truly yours,
- Quince"

*Whoooooooshhhhhhh*
“Yeeaaaahhhhhhh!!!!”
Screamed Jack. The Buizel was riding on his knees on the front of Terry’s surfboard going through a wave tube while Terry the Crocanaw was enjoying the ride of the surf as he was standing behind Jack keeping the balance even with his and the Buizel’s weight to prevent them both from tipping over and falling into the ocean right below them. The wave that Jack and Terry were riding on was a fairly big wave that the duo were both in the entrance of the tube keeping enough speed and distance to not crash into the tube that was behind them.
“Haha, you’re doing great, little buddy!” Screamed Terry through the roar of the wave to Jack.
“This is SO MUCH FUN! Hahaha!” Jack screamed back, laughing.
“Oh yeah, let’s try this once more, YOU READY?!”
“WHAT…ER, Y-Y-YEAH!!”
And just hearing that screaming acknowledgment, Terry prepped himself as leaned forward gaining more speed moving away from the entrance of the wave tube, as Jack knelt a bit further and got ready for the move the duo was going to do. The surfboard pressed into the ocean as more splashes from side to side.
*Whoooooosh!*
"Alright, let's do this..."
With the speed Jack and Terry were making, the surfboard started to descend closer to the floor of the ocean. Just when what appeared to look like they were going to crash into the ocean, both Terry and Jack moved both their bodies to the left.
**FWOOOShHHhHhhhhH!!**
“YeeeeaaaahHAHAHAHA!”
“WOOOOOOOOOOOOAHHHHHH!!!”
There was enough power and speed for Terry to rise his surfboard upwards towards the top of the outer current of the wave. The two Pokémon rocketed upwards quite a bit above the wave and started screaming happily as the two lost their footing form the surfboard while airborne.
*FWooooooOOoooOo*
Meanwhile, the wave had already passed them below.
*FWoooooo~*
However, from rocketing upward reduced slower to becoming full a stop the two Pokémon in the air was slowly starting to fall with planet’s gravity finally beginning to kick in. Jack and Terry saw Terry’s Blue Hawaiian Flower style surfboard beneath their pawed feet flew back down faster to the ocean before them, as the Surfboard plummeted with a giant
*SPLOIiIISH!*
The sound of the Surfboard went with a loud flat splash that could be heard from both of the Pokémon as they stared.
"..."
Without hesitation, Terry and Jack looked back at each other, and Terry smiled at the Buizel.
“Now, Jack!”
“Okay!”
*Fwooosh!*
The two Pokémon were not far from each other when they launched, and they began stretch out their paws towards each other.
*Catch!*
They had successfully brought their paws together, and started to descend spinning in a circle like actual sky divers would when they would sky dive, and was enjoying the moment spinning while laughing happily down to the ocean below.
"YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!”
“WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”
Both of the Pokémon had screamed happily out of the free fall. For Jack, it was really thrilling falling into the ocean, and he had felt great happiness with Terry being there for him right by his side.
*Fwoooooo*
“Just like we practiced...!” screamed Terry to Jack.
“R-r-right!” Jack cried back.
Just when the duo were getting closer to the ocean water, they let go of their held paws, and started to both perform a diving position. The two pokemon angled their dive with both their paws forward, and Jack closed his eyes.
*Sploo~*
"...."
**SPLOOOOSH!!**
“Gah! *pant* *pant*”
“BLUH!”
Both of the Pokémon dived into the Dark Blue Ocean Water, and began to resurface with both gasping for air as the duo looked at each other and laughed and cheered.
“Awesome, we did it, haha!”
“That was great, little buddy! We sure did!”
*Splash! Splash!*
The surfboard was not far away from them, and both the Croconaw and Buizel swam to the floating blue plank and get on easily with Terry going on first, followed by Jack with a little help from Terry himself. After getting on secured on the board with Jack in front and Terry behind him, Terry gave a soft pat on the right side of Jack’s shoulder and said,
“Boy, that was great, little buddy, and you did that on your third try too! I’m impressed!”
Blushing a bit, Jack looked back and smiled happily. “Yeah!…That…that hurt..the first time hurt too…”
Terry’s smile then faded a little.
“Oh….er…”
~~~~~…..2 hours ago before on the first try…..~~~~~
*FWWWOOOOOOOSHHHH!!!*
“OK LITTLE BUDDY, HERE WE GO!”
“WOOOOOOAHHHHHH!!”
The two Pokémon went flying above the wave, and Jack had panicked and jumped off the board a little too early.
“WAAAHHHH!!”
*FWOOOOOOO—-*
“JACK! NOOOOO! TOO EARLYYYY!!”
“AAAAAAAAAA—“
*SPLATCH!*
“JACK?! ARE YOU OK?!”
“...”
*Fwwoooo—*
*Splash!*
“BLUH! JACK?! JACK?! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?! SPEAK TO ME BUDDY!”
*Flip!*
“...Puh…”
Terry used his weight and dived fast back into the Ocean to be next to Jack. From the height that Jack had landed from, he went with his front body first into the ocean water with his front side of his body like landing on concrete. The noise of the sound even from above in the air had made Terry cringe really hard from hearing it making him react to get to Jack quickly.
“…Owwwwww…”
“…*Phew*…”
~~~~~…Back to the present…~~~~~
Both Pokémon cringed at each other.
“W-well, you did it this time, so practice makes perfect, y-yeah?”
“…Um…yup…”
“Hm...”
Terry looked up towards the sky. Some clouds were around here and there, but other than that, the weather was beautiful as always. He then saw the distance of the sun, and it from where it was, Terry could tell what time it was. From the suns distance, it was getting into the late afternoon. Terry then smiled.
“Heh…good…let’s uh…head back to the hut, then? It’s getting a bit late, I think that’s enough surfing and whatnot out here, yeah?”
“Oh….ok, yeah! But…why?”
*Pat!*
“Gotta prepare to make dinner! I wanna make something good for you. By the way, you were amazing for your first time…it’s like you were a natural out there!”
Jack felt his cheeks get a bit red.
“Oh, er…”
“This is when you say, “Thanks”, Jack.” Terry smiled with a smirk.
“Oh..er, thanks, Terry! Thanks for the dinner too, it all sounds great!” Jack said with a big smile.
“...Heh...”
“…What a kid…”
*Pat!*
*Swish!*
*Splash!*
Terry nodded with a smile and patted Jack’s shoulder once more and slid backwards on his surfboard putting his body into the ocean water and placed his crocodile hands onto the end of the board and proceeded kicking with his feet towards the shore as Jack sat in the middle enjoying the ride. Jack’s body was aching from the surfing, so he was glad he didn’t have to swim his way back.
“…”
“…”
*…..Splash, splash, splash, splash..…*
Jack had looked ahead of them from the small distance that they were from was a straw/wooden hut like home on the beach. The hut had a special kind of straw style on for the roof with a brick chimney. The surrounding base was wooden and had windows that faced the ocean and on the sides as well as a door entrance that had flat wooden pieces on the ground as a floor base. The house itself was fairly big for it being on the beach. Next to the house, was surrounded by Palm Trees with smaller details that Jack looked at. He saw a fire pit with fire that was currently being used as the fire flamed on. Surrounding the fire pit were 4 wooden half like seats that on the left and right had legs. Beyond the area, there was the wilds of palm trees and bushes that surround the land beyond the beach.
“Hard to see beyond that land though…” Jack thought. “I wonder what else is that surrounds the place…hm…”
*SPLASH!*
“W-whoa!” Jack cringed onto the board as his thoughts were broken by the sudden movement.
“Woah, hang on, small wave bump…” Terry said keeping the board steady.
“!”
Terry tensed for a second.
~~~~~…..?????…..~~~~~
“HEY! JUST HOLD ON JUST A BIT LONGER! YOU CAN DO THIS!”
“I can’t…can’t hold on...much longer…”
"You need to live...!"
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
*GRIP*
Terry tensed during the small wave on the board even harder so Jack wouldn’t fall over off of reflexes. Once the bump of the wave subsided he sighed, then asked Jack,
“You…you all good...buddy?”
“Y-yeah, thanks!” Jack said as he looked back with a small smile as he returned to face and look towards the beach.
“...Good...to hear...”
Terry nodded in return and continued kicking. However, the kicks were a little bit slower. He saw his left arm. It had a scar that ran down from his shoulder to almost near his wrists. He shuddered as he then glanced at his right arm. The right arm had the tattoo on there with the red symbol swirl that looked like a hurricane symbol, but with curved indents.
"I can't believe...that I'm still alive..."
~~~~~…..?????…..~~~~~
“And with this...this is a mark of you being alive.”
“...I...”
“Make this as a thing where you once left your past, and are now moving on towards your next chapter…”
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
*GRIP*
Terry’s body was shaking slightly as he continued to grip harder. He hadn't even noticed that with his intense grip, he could have possibly indented his surfboard if he gripped any tighter.
*Splash, Splash, Splash…*
“Hmm...” Jack then looked back at the beach with the house. He saw a familiar Pokémon laying above the sand in a hammock with his back side showing towards Jack. The Buizel couldn’t help but smile at the Charizard as he saw him sleeping peacefully.
“Tidus…” Jack thought with a smile sensing a form of security in his heart. He couldn’t describe the feeling, but whenever he saw Tidus, he felt warmth and security.
A sudden thought had crossed Jack’s mind just now.
“Oh yeah, hey, um, Terry?”
“Hm? What’s up, kiddo?” Terry slowed his kicking a little more looking up at Jack as the Buizel turned a 180 and sat facing Terry. From looking, Jack had no idea that Terry was shaking at all.
“I was curious…if it’s okay with you, how...did you meet Tidus and Kanoa…?”
Terry blinked at Jack and looked from the shore then looked back at Jack and smiled.
“W-well, you seem quite curious, so sure, I can tell you a short version since we aren’t that far…”
“Yay! Thanks, Terry!” Jack replied back happily.
“Heh…what a cute kid…”
“No probs…so it’s like this…”
~~~~~…..Meanwhile at the hut on the beach a couple of minutes ago…..~~~~~
“Hoo, that’s the last of ‘em…” Kanoa said.
*Drop!*
*Plunk!*
“This should help out Kai out for dinner prep…got my workout for the day…heh…”
The Alolan Raichu had dropped some packed boxes inside of the hut of what seemed like the kitchen. Using his right paw, he wiped the top of his forehead from some sweat that had formed. Halfway through the wiping on his paw, he felt the ridge in his middle of his head and froze.
“…Guh...No...not...not now...”
~~~~~…..???…..~~~~~
“And you thought you would be able to help the others, didn’t you?”
“But…I know I could have--”
“As if you would have been able to save anyone, anyway…”
“….”
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
*WHAM*
*Pant….Pant*
“Ugh…painful memories of this scar…what did I do to do deserve this…why does this keep happening...?”
Shaking his head, Kanoa finished wiping his head from that rigid scar he mentioned, and looked through the kitchen window. He saw from the distance in the ocean he saw two figures surfing along on a board. Kanoa calmed down after a few more breath’s, and smiled.
“Glad to know Kai has someone to surf with other than me for a change…hope that little brudda is holding himself out there…and that Kai won’t be torturin’ him…” Kanoa shook his head in disapproval.
“ZZnrk…”
“Huh…?”
Hearing the noise coming from outside, Kanoa went out to investigate. Stepping out in the hut, he was welcomed with the little area he was in, and looked around for the noise.
“ZzzzZzzz….”
He then followed and looked at the source of the sound. It was Tidus, as he was on the hammock with a big smile on his face with his eyes closed happily sleeping away. Kanoa couldn’t help but smile at the big fire lizard.
“Heh…just the same like always. Guess his flying tuckered him out a bit…not easy getting here after all…”
He then looked out towards the land.
“This is an island no one entirely knows about, anyway…”
~~~~~…..2 hours ago…..~~~~~
“Do you really think I can do this, Kanoa?”
Tidus had shifted his feet uneasily in the sand as he watched Jack and Terry out in the ocean enjoying the waves coming through. Kanoa was silent staring also with Tidus at Jack and Terry.
“Well, with patience and timing, I’m sure you can help him out with the problems he’s going through. Don’t forget that taking care of someone is tough. But I’m definitely sure you can overcome them.”
“I…I don’t know…” Tidus said depressingly.
Kanoa turned his full attention to Tidus, and Tidus caught on and looked down at Kanoa.
Kanoa nodded a firm nod.
“You are something really special after all, brudda. You have to take care of yourself first before you can help Jack out. So, don’t give up on Jack, and he won’t give up on you…after all…he looks up to you in a way."
Tidus’s eyes lit up from that statement and turned red from embarrassment.
“I…I…”
~~~~~…..Back to the present…..~~~~~
“Glad I could help you out and make you at least feel a little better judging from your smile you got going on there, heh.” Kanoa thought, and smiled at Tidus.
“Rest easy for now, Brudda. You’ll need it…”
“Heeeeeyyyyyy Kanoaaaa!”
Came a cry. It was Jack’s voice.
“Hm?"
Looking towards the ocean, and spotting Terry and Jack, he waved towards the two, and ran towards the water.
“Hey there guys, how’d the waves go?” Kanoa said with a smile showing his teeth.
“It was great!” Jack said happily, then his smile shrank, "Until I crashed, but learned how to dive better!" His smile then grew up again.
“Hah, good to hear, little bruddah! You’re gonna have to tell me all about it!”
“Hehe! Of course!”
Giggling, Jack then hopped off from the surfboard as it reached to shore, and walked by to Kanoa, and turned back to watch Terry rise from the shore in lifted his surfboard onto his side and shook off the water from his body.
*SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE!*
“Oh yeah, you should do that too, Jack.” Kanoa added looking at the Buizel.
“Oh…er…”
*Shake…Shake...*
As Terry finished shaking, Jack tried to shake from his wet fur. He had little success though as Kanoa and Terry sweat-dropped at his attempt.
“Well, you got most of it…we can go dry by the fire pit, then?” Kanoa suggested.
“Erm…okay...” Jack admitted half embarrassed. Kanoa went and looked to Terry.
“Oh yeah, Kai, I brought in food for dinner for you to prepare. Think you can handle it all on your own like we attempted before?”
Terry that was just called Kai, and nodded in approval with a smile.
“Why is he called that…? Why not just…Terry?” Jack thought.
“Sure thing, just leave it to me for tonight!” Terry said happily breaking Jack’s thoughts.
“Can’t wait to see what you got!” Kanoa said with a smile showing his teeth. Terry nodded, and trotted towards back the hut and headed inside.
Kanoa then turned to Jack with a smile. “Wanna head towards the fire pit and tell me all about those surf experiences for your first time, bruddah?”
Jack smiled. “Yes, please, I would like that!”
“Alright then! Oh yeah, but be careful, Tidus is sleeping so we can talk normally, but not loud, yeah?”
“Oh…okay!”
~~~~~…..After getting towards the fire pit, and explaining the first two times of the surfing experiences Jack encountered…..~~~~~
*Crackle!*
The fire crackled between the two Pokémon as they sat opposite sides from each other, and enjoyed the warmth of the fire. The sun was nearing down just slightly above the ocean water as the sky was in a orangish style setting on the horizon.
“…And then, there was this weird Star at the bottom of the sand that waved at me from when I fell back into the water! I didn’t know what to do though, but I waved back!” Jack said with a big smile on his face.
Kanoa couldn’t help but laugh out loud from this tale that Jack had told. It was a belly laugh as he enjoyed hearing from Jack’s experiences in his words.
“Hahahaha, that’s really great little bruddah! That would be a Staryu you found, then. Think that was Jerry who popped by.”
Jack then turned his head sideways curious like how a growlithe would be confused.
“So...that’s a Staryu named Jerry?”
“Yup! Nice fellow who says hi to us every now and then giving us word of what's happening in the ocean sometimes.”
“Huh…”
Jack pondered for a second looking towards the ocean in bewilderment.
Kanoa couldn’t help but smile at the Buizel. “Try not to think too hard on it, bruddah.” I know a few that Kai knows that are friends with him. If you want, I could ask him when he’s free after from cooking, then.”
"That sounds good..." Jack still had a pondering thought about him.
“Hmm...Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, Jack, welcome to Sunset Beach! I’m sure you can tell why it’s called that...” Kanoa trailed off that end of speaking and used his right paw to point at the sun as it was setting down even further into the ocean to distract Jack from thinking too hard.
“O-oh, thank you, that name actually sounds great…” Jack thought in pondering still lost.
Noticing this, Kanoa then asked,
“Oh…was there something else on your mind, Jack?”
“Oh, er…actually yeah….I...was wondering if um…”
“Hmmm?”
“I was wondering why you called Terry Ka——-“
*FWWWIIISHHHHHHH*
*SKOWWWW!!!*
“WHAT THE—-“
“W-WOAH!”
*FLOFF!!*
“OOF!!
Ow, ow, ow, ow…what happened…?"
*Plop!*
In a sudden blur, an object flew towards Tidus as it whizzed just inches above him, and the noise that flew by Tidus woke him up in an erratic stupor and with his sudden movements, Tidus fell off from the hammock and fell down into the sand, hard. Tidus’s sunglasses that he had on the top of his head flew a couple of feet towards Jack. Still scared but shaking it off quickly, Jack noticed Tidus’s sunglasses, and broke out of his fear to get off of his seat and pick them up. Jack could have sworn that something flew by.
“Uh...Kanoa—“
*FWOOOSH*
“RAAAAGH! WHO DID THAT?!” Tidus screamed in frustration now wide awake, as he looked around and got up form the sand with sand all over on his front side. Jack froze from Tidus’s roar of frustration and looked at him as the Flame-lit tail rose in a pitch quickly.
“Woah woah, Tidus, calm down, it’s ok, it wasn’t us, I promise you!” Kanoa pleaded out towards Tidus as he too got up from his seat and ran towards the Charizard to calm him down by ushering his paws up in defense to get attention. Tidus did notice, and looked down at Kanoa and then looked towards Jack who looked scared at seeing him like that, but Jack kept a stern face.
“Please Tidus, d-don’t be mad…” Jack squeaked out in fear and panic.
“I…”
Tidus’s rage quickly subsided, and his flame on his tail went back down to its lowered state.
He hated seeing Jack be nervous or scared of him.
“I can’t let him see me like that…”
“I’m sorry, kid...and Kanoa…I just—”
“Yo, is everything okay out here?! *pant*” Came a cry by the hut of the front door. It was Terry, and he was panting a bit.
“Yeah, Terry, sorry about that!” Tidus said towards the Croconaw dismissing with a waving clawed hand.
“It was just a stumble! We’re good!”
“Ah, alright…well, dinner is almost getting ready to eat soon anyway!” Terry then quickly retreated back into the hut house to prep the final parts of dinner.
“Phew…”
Everyone was now collecting a sigh of a relief for a second and then,
“Aw, Tea and Biscuits, my aim of the hammock drifted off because of the wind…I wanted to hit the rope, so the big Lizard could tumble down even better, but even then, my result seemed far more funnier than I expected, heh…”
“!”
*FWOOOSH*
*Grrr!*
Tidus’s flame lit tail pitched once more as he growled showing his teeth.
“That voice…!”
Everyone hearing this new voice that sounded British and male, turned towards the Jungle part of the Rainforest. Above on one of the palm trees, stood a figure that had presented himself in the broad sunlit light.
“Hm, hm…”
*Fwoosh!*
It was a bird like Pokémon that had appeared to be owlish like creature wearing a green like feathered hood around it’s head. On top of the green feathered head stationed a brownish white feather with a green tail. There was also marked a red “X” just below the base of the neck where strings that looked like was made for hoodies dangled about.There was also a green feathered tail as well. The creature also Had brown wings that at the end of his tips he used as hands were white tipped had and had wasted no time with by standing where he was. He was also very muscular with the ab pack on his front side of the body that was all creamy white all the way down to his talon’d feet that were bird clawed with black claws. His face had a black beak and on the outside of his eyes and face circled a red color, with his chin being creamy white as well.
*Fwooo*
With a quick fast motion, he flapped his wings and flew towards the group of the area.
“Woah…” Jack thought, “Who is this…?”
*Plop!*
“You got a lotta nerve doing that!” Tidus said in frustration wanting to really use his fire attacks on this bird.
“Now, Tidus, c’mon, you gotta be the better ‘mon here…” Kanoa said calmly.
Not having any time to think through further, the Bird Pokémon paid no mind to Kanoa or Jack as he landed by them and away from Tidus like how Jack has been facing Kanoa from earlier from across the fire pit.
“Come now, Tidus, just having a bit of fun is all. I used one of my arrows to just startle you.” The Pokémon said with a small smile.
The flame on Tidus’s tail slowly was diminishing to lower once more.
“Whatever, Quince. If you do that again next time, I won’t hesitate to burn ya…” Tidus said in a huff as he began to dust off the sand he was covered in from the fall from earlier.
*Wipe!*
“So, that’s his name…” Jack thought curiously.
“*Sigh* C’mon Tidus…” Kanoa said dryly shaking his head.
“…”
Jack couldn’t help but notice his grumbling either, and walked towards Tidus still holding the Sunglasses that he normally wears. Jack then held the sunglasses in one paw and lifted it upwards towards the Charizard. Tidus noticed this greatly as Quince and Kanoa watched in silence. Gingerly taking the Sunglasses, Tidus placed it on top of his head where it was usually stationed when he wasn’t in need of using them except when he was flying, or used it for the sun, or just wanted to wear it because he felt like it. Tidus then smiled down at the Buizel and used his right clawed hand hand ruffled Jack’s head lightly.
“Heh, thanks for getting and protecting my sunglass safely, kid.” He said with a genuine smile and a wink.
Jack couldn’t help but smile at that letting the rage from what happened earlier melt away. He knew that Tidus was just upset from waking up, and realized that he could be too if woken up like that in defense.
“You’re welcome!” Came the Buizel’s reply.
“Hm…Anyway, what did you want, Quince?” Kanoa asked the Owlish like bird. “It’s not often we see you down here from the mountain area…”
The Owlish Bird Pokémon then looked at Kanoa with a smile. “Oh, I just happen to be my rounds of exercise of flying when I spotted you lot along with…” he then paused and looked at Jack once more.
“This little fellow here…”
“…”
Jack didn’t know what to say and kept silent and turned to look at Quince until he got the courage to say while he stood next to Tidus, “H-hello…m-my names Jack…” Jack said shakily looking at the bird, then looking away. Jack had felt strange weird vibes with him for some reason.
“Ah, pleasure to meet you, lad.” Quince said calmly with a wave.
Jack noticed this, and waved back silently.
“This kid needs to stop being so cute…it hurts…” Tidus thought from the awkward silence. He let go of the feelings for now.
“So, is that all then?” Tidus said shaking off his thought, and focused on the task at hand which was to make small talk.
"You here to have some fun and just flap away back to your nest?"
"Tidus!" Kanoa hissed silently.
"Er, well, no, but--" Quince began.
“No? Ah, well, great seeing you once again, Quince, take care!” Tidus said half sarcastically, and then turned around to proceed to get back on the hammock he was once sleeping on.
“Actually on the contrary, I came to challenge you, Sir Tidus.”
“Oh, what, is that challenge consist of being all formal now to me, SIR Quince?” Came back a mocking british half attempted tone as Tidus was about to jump into the hammock with a flamed snort.
“Tidus!” Came Kanoa’s outcry. “Be nice!”
“Feh….” Came back the Charizards reply.
Meanwhile, Jack just looked back and forth from the conversation in silence.
"Why do they not like each other...?" Jack thought.
Ignoring the mock however, Quince smirked. “Yes, with a flying challenge.”
"..."
Tidus paused and froze as he lifted his left foot to jump into the hammock and brought it back down, and turned around to face Quince and folded his arms across his muscled chest with a playful smirk showing his teeth in a friendly banter.
“Oh? A flying challenge, again, huh?”
“Indeed.” Quince nodded sternly. “You see, it has been quite sometime that we have had one, and I would like to challenge you again, perchance, if that is alright with you.”
Jack looked at Tidus as did Kanoa in response to the smirking Tidus.
“Gee, I dunno, you woke me up with a arrow earlier…”
“All in good fun, I promise.” Quince reassured Tidus in a tone that sounded really convincing.
“Hm…alright, why not? It HAS been a while, and I could use the flying to stretch my wings anyway.
"Hmph, you’re on, Owl!” Tidus said with a rival smile.
"I'm called a Decidueye..." Quince couldn’t help but smile at this. “Excellent. Thank you, Sir Ti—“
“Enough with the ‘sir’ formal stuff, we’re friends, got it?” Came back Tidus’s stern reply.
“Ah. My apologies. Very good, then.”
Kanoa smiled and shook his head. “Alright, if you guys want a challenge, then let’s get this underway, ‘cause that sun is starting to set pretty soon…” He then looked at the distance as the sun started to slowly sink lower.
“You guys know the rules, one loop by edges of the cove, and crossing the finish line between the two palm trees of the hammock.”
“Right!” both said to Kanoa.
Tidus then started stretching as did Quince.
“*Grunt!*”
“Hah…”
As the two were stretching their bodies to get warmed up, Jack was left all confused and huddled over to Kanoa.
“Kanoa, is this a race?” Jack asked while lost. Kanoa couldn’t help but smile at Jack and nodded. “Yeah, little bruddah. There’s a slight history between these two. I can’t really explain it much, but if you can get Quince to explain it to you, I’m sure he would be open to knowing letting you know. Although, not now though, as these two are prepping.”
“Oh…okay…” Jack said silently.
“I wonder what Quince’s life is like…?” Jack thought.
“Oh yeah, Kanoa, there was something else I wanted to ask you…”
“Hm…?”
~
~~~~~…..A few minutes later of warming up and taking down the hammock…..~~~~~
“Alright, are you two ready?” Kanoa asked standing by the hut next to Jack.
“Yea!”
"Yes..."
Both Tidus and Quince said in unison. Tidus and Quince then prepped their marks next to the two palm trees and took into a ready running stance. The two Pokémon were distanced a few feet apart to make sure they would both get a running start and provide enough coverage to get them going through the times they need to be.
“Ok…
...ready...
GO!”
*Stomp, Stomp, Stomp, Stomp, Stomp!*
*Fwooosh!*
“HEY! WAIT! WHAT ABOUT DINNER?!” Came a cry from the hut.
“He has the worst timing when things happen, I swear…” Tidus thought disapprovingly, but ignored Terry’s outcry.
“…”
*Flap, flap, flap, flap…*
“Dear Lady Diane,
How are you doing these days? I hope that things are going well for you, and with everyone back home. I do often miss the fantastic cooking that some of the mon’s have made each day, and I always do think of your beautiful face whenever I do get the chance to see the sunrise.”
*Woooooosh!*
After getting a running start, both of the Pokémon flew off into the sky with their wings just before they had reached the ocean water, and started to fly towards the right side of the edge of the islands rock formations.
“…”
Both Pokémon stayed silent as the first loop was coming up.
*FWOOOOOOOOSH*
“Blast it…” Quince said quietly.
Both Pokémon then did a loop de loop, but not at once. Tidus moved a lot faster as Quince had a little bit of a struggle in his loop, but managed to do so, and followed pursuit right behind Tidus. Both then proceeded to move towards the left side of the rocky terrain. Each Pokémon were making their way towards getting ready for the second loop.
“I do miss home often at times, but I have been enjoying the time away from the lands, and have managed to make some very interesting friends from the time I have left. Kanoa and Terry (Kai) and Tidus have been very interesting Pokémon to partake in with conversations here on this island.
I do wish you can see it one day.
I really do.
It’s one of the most beautiful islands I have been on since living here.”
*FWOO—*
“RRRGGGHH!!!” came a disgruntled Tidus that brought Quince back to the moment at hand.
*FWOOSH*
Quince was ready for the next loop, and managed to out maneuver Tidus in the speed he was going forth on with the loop.
"No! I'm losing speed...!" Tidus screamed silently.
“There are times I have left this island and started to pursue other distant area’s that are not home. The journey for it is long of course, but some of the things and places I have been to and tried, they are way much more different than they are from home. If there is such a time where I have not been excited to try something new, it was never a dull moment, that I can assure you.”
*SSSSSHHHH!!!*
Completing the loop, he then proceeded and flapped to head back towards the middle of the two areas where the sun was setting and then turned around back towards the beach of the island until
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
“RIGHT BEHIND YOU, QUINCY!”
“!”
*FWUUSHH*
The startled Decidueye who was shocked to see Tidus watched as Tidus managed to catch up and now both Pokémon were neck and neck racing to get to the two Palm trees to claim as victor.
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
“RGGGGHHH!!!!”
“HEEEYYYAAAAAAAA!!!!”
“But I do have to say, out of everything that I did experience so far from this world that we live in, it’s that there are a lot of good Pokémon out there looking for excitement, make new opportunities of themselves, and provide more than just a friendly gesture than I have ever thought to realize that I am not truly alone in this world. If I can think of anything, it would be that it would be something more of a dream come true to experience. In ways, I can’t believe that I wanted to say that I am much more happier doing this now than I was back home miserable. I do miss you and everyone at home each day and want to return at some point.”
“I’m gonna win this time, Tidus!”
“Bring it, Quince!”
Both Pokémon exchanged growling smiles as they looked at each other and proceeded to get closer and closer to the Palm Trees.
**FWEEEEEEESSSHHHHHH**
“Oh man, here they come, Jack! This is gonna be close!” Kanoa screamed, as he held onto Jack’s shoulders with excitement.
“GO TIDUS AND QUINCE!! WOOOO!!” Jack cheered both Pokémon on in good spirits nearing the end of the race.
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
*FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.FLAP.*
“But, I do have to say this though, Lady Diane….”
*FWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO*
Quince poured more of his speed and gave it all he had near the Palm trees and reached passing through the goal just slightly ahead of Tidus just inches to the finish line.
"QUINCE WIIIIIIIINNNNNNSSSSSSS!!!" Screamed Kanoa.
“…I’m having the time of my life.
Truly yours,
- Quince"
What a spark of a couple of Pokemon for a match!
A new character swoops into the scene!
Meet Quince, and he is Puppercase's (Formally called Lucario Ocraina's) creation.
Quince is the good type of fellow whom seems to have a interesting past?
What is his past...and who is this 'Lady Diane'?
What is Kanoa's and Terry's past?
Why is Terry called Kai?
Are there secrets hiding on this island that Jack and Tidus are on?...What's the connections with Quince and Tidus?
More info will be shared later on in the PMDE: Prologue story!
~~~~~~~
I hope you enjoyed this short story that was inspired by this commish art piece that Puppercase made.
Really inspired by this piece, and since Puppercase had such a cool character, I asked him permission for Quince to be in the story, and was given the word of to do so.
Quince's story is far from over though! He'll be introduced later in the future PMDE: Prologue Chapters.
This also goes for Terry and Kanoa too! We'll see them in the future soon.
