From the notes of Anthony Wales, keeper of Smithereen's Landing archives
Not long after landing on the shores of their new home, there was a short uprising by a group of monsters that were dissatisfied with what Fedwick had offered them. They broke away from the rest of Fedwick’s loyal followers and traveled until they reached the Crag. Here they settled and became the Ghekka, going back to being monsters Humans knew and feared.
The Ghekka are part serpent- long, scaly and extremely stealthy. They develop a look very similar to an Oriental dragon’s as they age, complete with spines, claws, fangs and long whiskers. The Ghekka are aware of their intimidating appearance and frequently use it to their advantage, scaring travelers into doing various things for their amusement. However, they have a very clearly defined sense of honor and rightness; if a lowland Landingite can work up the nerve to speak to one, a Ghekka is a trustworthy ally who will never go back on their work.
