Ideas are pesky, insidious little things. I've been having trouble with one in particular lately. A brief tale of a troubled wolf in an isolated town. Perhaps it's because I watched Inception recently, but these half-formed seeds of ideas have become very persistent of late. This one was the strongest out of the crowd and I think it looks quite good on paper. Certainly worth looking into, all my stories were once disorganized little scribblings like this one. This one may or may not have potential. Only time will tell. Not much is explained, but hey, in medias res is a fun element. It seems to work for any given Final Fantasy title. Plus, holy crap something I wrote has a Black Border! Revolutionary!

A lot more serious than your usual works, hitting a low spot perhaps? Still, a great read, and indeed you have a black border, but it's more quadrilateral than revolutionary, if you had a circular border that would be revolutionary. *clomp clomp clomp* Oops gotta' go, the pun police are here, and i'm considered linguistically dangerous.
Yeah, I was in kind of a funk when I wrote this. I suppose that it's a bit presumptuous to say that the burden of war weighs upon me. I'm an engineer not a rifleman, but it's hard to ignore that I contribute in a rather significant way to the whole killing part of warfighting that seems to be so popular these days. I kind of like Galen, he an honest wolf that got trapped in the exigencies of combat. And the weight of his regrets is a burden he will never be able to cast aside...
Didn't know you where a combat engineer, going for that job my self, doing well so far.
Now this might be just an attempt at justification and is probably useless. But, while in the army, which does cause harm as well as do good, one of the engineers jobs, dealing with traps and explosives can have positive effects on people you'll never meet. IEDs and minefield left by wars can cause massive problems for the civilian population well after the fightings done. And don't our forces have policies on cleaning those sort of devices when me extract from a location?
Your not presumptuous in the least, the fact that you have regrets prove that you're a good person and while the current fights have been poorly conducted and chosen to say the least at least it seems that America is beginning to back out. perhaps they'll try a different tact.
If anything I'm being the presumptive one, although I swear I'm just trying to be helpful. (Probably being naive instead.)

I doubt if I completely understand, I've got a mate at Tafe who has just been diagnosed with PTSD, and I'm starting to suspect I have the "Civilian" version as he called it. Hopefully, give me a year or so then i'll really know where you're coming from.
But till then, hope your funk clears up soon.
And Nuclear engineer, now that's a cool answer when some one asks what you do, sounds technical as all hell, what sort of stuff do you do, if you don't mind me asking.

"Maintenance Electronics Technician" and "Reactor Operator" are the more specific job titles. (Really no less useful for impressing chicks) Essentially I'm right in the think of things. I keep the atoms smashing and the steam flowing so that we can get out there and throw airplanes at terrorists. The Navy has a tendency to be a bit behind the times technology-wise. I went on a tour of a WWII sub and recognized a number of the switchboards and alarm matrix panels, but my Reactor Plant Control Console looks like it came from a freaking spaceship.
Wait, US army uses steam power? Dude, a steam-punk army would be awesome! And throwing airplanes at the enemy, are they paper and with insults written on them? Wouldn't that be a cheap way to conduct war, except for the cost of the half a Km long carrier.
Are the alarm matrix panels all read lights of bad and unpleasant news, or are a variety of colours used?

Sorry, my bad, a steampunk navy would be damn cool as well. And I get the steam thing as well now, I wonder why they chose steam as the best choice though, is it just a by product of the main engine they put to a good use or it there a special boiler for that purpose?
Oh those kind of boxes, my brain has one of those, but i think its been broked a big light marked kill never goes out. hmmm.

We use steam for everything. Main engines, turbine generators, aircraft catapults, even water heaters are steam powered. All that the reactors produce is heat, and steam is the best way to turn that heat into a useful form of energy. And yeah, that light sticks every once in awhile, I usually ignore it.
