two spacefaring bug-ish-folk
they aren't truly an anthro of any one creature so much as mantis-themed aliens, but let's be real, hehe cute bug girl
the shells and growths on their body are less brittle and structural than insectile chitin, more like the ridges and growths of crested geckos, with some yield to them; the wings will not immediately snap if buckled, nor will their tails lock in rigidly from the soft plates around their undersides, however they also can't be fully "smoothed out" and keep their raised or wobbly forms when crushed or stretched. their race has an interior skeleton, but a lightweight one with neuron paths and some blood vessels passing through the "bone", so the pseudo-exoskeleton still bears part of the burden of holding the body together.
onto the chars themselves!
A pair of "trust fund babies" off to explore the galaxy and make use of their time and undefined disposable income,
Isador is the quintessential bullshit mad scientist, as far as anyone but her can tell she spends her time putting colourful water in colourful goop and cackling wildly when it does either everything or nothing. The type to bring a laser canon to a knife fight, she seems obnoxiously hypercompetent at first, but only because she weighs the odds of every venture against her own, personal ability; she'll act dismissive and uninterested about anything that absolutely would get her in over her head. She cannot be stopped from pilfering alien """plant""" and """fungal""" life (read, anything stationary enough that she thinks she can safely contain it, no matter how aggressive it may seem), and it's becoming increasingly problematic for anyone housing her hoard.
Cazador, inversely, uses their travels to engage as many peoples as possible. Friendly to a fault but insufferably preachy and optimistic, while Isador is busy robbing planets blind of their resources and novelties, Cazador will be spending time in a small local village helping out with a building project and asking payment only in your time - listen, if all the planets worked together like this, think of how the galaxy would be! - he shares his companion's troublesome predisposition for collection, but rather than easily contained plants, he's foolishly "befriending" even the largest and most vicious carnivores roaming the landing site.
deep down they are both simply disaster bis with no one to vent to but each other, and such wildly opposite coping mechanisms that such moments of intimacy only leave both with more resolve to bolster the loudness of their current methods. someone really needs to lock them each in opposite cabins and shush them for a while. maybe some condescending but kindly head pats would cut their crap.
designs and artwork by myself (I didn't know I designed? this is wack, feel free to roast in the comments)
