I wrote this one after a bit of sleep dep. I think the lyrics are pretty self explanatory.
The interesting thing about thing about this recording is that I was using it to experiment with some new techniques for Artificial double tracking and manual double tracking. These techniques have been around for years but I decided to see if tweaking the volume of the reinforcing track and differing the amount of reverb applied would have a positive of effect and was pleasantly surprised.
All the vocals are double tracked or layered over even more than that.
Also I ended up recording a dulcimer and toy guitar for this one:)
I love getting a chance to use a dulcimer particularly since they can only play in one key at a time.
I am over all pretty pleased with the way this came out.
Instrumentation:
Left: Rainsong graphite guitar, finger picked and mic'd at the neck joint
center: vocals,
right: Mountain Dulcimer, overhead mic'd
right-ish: Phoenix brand toy guitar nylon stringed (lead guitar), mic'd at the sound hole
All instruments preformed by myself.
Lyrics:
Drink your lime green tea and
watch the white smoke rise
your mind belongs to me I
see it in your eyes
you've got it
Don't you?
I've watched you from afar and
I know you've seen
the pale light behind my eyes like
elements of kerosene
You see it
don't you?
and I see
your empty bottles
lying on your bed
and I know
those empty bottles
are filling
up your head
so drink your lime green tea and
watch the white smoke rise
Your mind belongs to me I
see it in your eyes
you've got it
Don't you?

secretly while you were away I was training hard under the tutelage of great eastern mystics to become a actual singer :)
Well...not really, but I do think I'm getting better. I'm just happy that now I'm able to sound like I have been trying to for years.I think taking a bit of choir really helped me quite a bit.
That dulcimer sounds awesome! I want to build one that has a actual neck at some point so it can be played like a guitar.

XD i knew you must have been up to something while i was away XD
I know taking choir has helped me a lot...especially with my confidence >,> no one had ever really heard me sing before and i was very shy about singing at all in front of others till i was in a group.
And that would be pretty awesome to see a guitar style dulcimer...i just love the hammered dulcimer...it is one of my favorite instruments to listen to

This one is actually just a mountain dulcimer. I have no idea why they named it that. It looks nothing like nor plays like a hammer dulcimer which would have already existed at the time of its invention. The problem i have with these is that the fret board is attached to the sound board for its whole length. You have to play it flat like a dobro.
yea, that can be a bit of a pain sometimes...especially if you are really used to playing strings like a guitar and bass. It still sounds pretty. It was named mountain dulcimer because a lot of mountain folk enjoyed the simplicity of the instrument and would pick it up in addition (or instead in some cases) of the fiddle because it is a bit less temperamental and much easier to care for.
Awesome, so I wasn't the only one who got a bit of a Poets of the Fall vibe from this song. Although the song I first thought of was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atKv1JyQgV8. Always good to see you post.
