This was a fun pic to do of my Dakkota Wolf caracter, it was one of the first pics i done where "most" of the background was created several different photo props, ( seven to be exact..) The sky, cliff, trees, rocks, clouds, all were rendered from seven completely different photos. Dakkota, the staff, Feathers, and the rock his left foot is resting on is drawn in.

Hehe:) You've created a background that looks just like home in Norway here:)
And you really amaze me with the details:S That rock looks so natural, when i saw this picture on your art cd, i didn't know it was hand drawn:S Until now when you told us:p
And those feathers... Wow... I want to be able to make feathers like that too... You gonna make a guide about that??

There is absolutely nothing wrong with copying from pictures or from other artist's works (as long as you acknowledge the other artist). I started drawing by first copying different characters from the daily newspaper comic strips. Then when I could produce a reasonable copy of those characters I started trying to create my own comics with those characters. Of course they turned out looking like poop, but it was fun to do and I was getting practice. Eventually from what I learned I started trying to come up with my own characters.
We all had to learn from someone else, little lion. We copy and copy until we begin trying to draw things we have not copied and on that happy day we suddenly realize that "Hey, I can draw this stuff on my own!!" :)

Apparently i need to do a lot of mental practice as well:S I've tried using other peoples pictures to draw mine, but afterwards i just felt all guilty and felt like i've cheated or something:S Even if i did tell people i had borrowed a pose from said artist, i still felt like the picture was tainted:S
That's why i now try to only create "new" poses for my characters. I still use reference now and then, but only to see how muscles are placed, what the eye's look like when this and that happens etc...
Only two pictures from my gallery, and one from the scraps, have "borrowed" poses:p

Like i said: Mental practice:p But thanks for letting me use your art work for reference:) *Hugs*
I am about to make a second character for a picture i'm making... Maybe i'll just skim through your art cd again and see if i find something to make it go faster:)
Up until now, i've only used your art for inspiration and a little for reference(like eyes and muscle placement and such). And it HAS helpt me:D Just look at the last pictures i've made... I think i can see progress:p
Now if i can just start making pictures with a good story to them....:p

*Smiles* thanks Lionus. Drawing a caracter into a background, especially RL Life photos or photo like ones, can be difficult and hard to do. The parts where the drawn caracter actually touches the object in the photo background takes practice to get them to work well together, and actually appear that the drawn caracter was actually there, and not look like somthing drawn over a photo. The shadow-casting & hightlighting is a key element to acieve this. :)
